'The Michigan Court of Appeals declined to overturn a light jail sentence for a young woman who killed her father by burning him with a dangerous powder when he couldn't drive her to a hair appointment before her 18th birthday party.

Megan Imirowicz, now 21, was sentenced to a year in jail in 2023. She was immediately released because she had already spent roughly 17 months in custody before trial and while awaiting her punishment.

Sentencing guidelines called for a minimum term of slightly more than four years in prison. But Oakland County Judge Victoria Valentine gave Imirowicz a break, noting her age, lack of maturity and likelihood of rehabilitation. Prosecutors objected.'

But the aide alleges he felt unable to reject Clouse's advances because of the power she held over him and says he found the romance 'increasingly unwelcome.''

'So Christenson began exploring other denominations in college and landed on perhaps the most traditional of all: Orthodox Christianity. In 2022, at the age of 25, he converted.

“It seems to me like the mainline denominations are hemorrhaging people,” he said. “If you still are serious about being a Christian now that there isn’t really as much social status tied up in it, and you want something that has some heft to it, there’s more of an awareness of Orthodoxy than there used to be.”

Christenson’s story isn’t just anecdotal. As more and more Protestant churches unfurl Pride flags and Black Lives Matter banners in front of their gates, young men are trending toward more traditional forms of worship.

A survey of Orthodox churches around the country found that parishes saw a 78% increase in converts in 2022, compared with pre-pandemic levels in 2019. And while historically men and women converted in equal numbers, vastly more men have joined the church since 2020.

'Although today a woman can be more like a man, and a man can be more like a woman, anti-female hatred, contempt and prejudice persists.

Patriarchy, originating with the advent of agriculture, is a 10,000-year-old social system of society and government in which the father or eldest male is head of the family. Men hold primary power and predominate in roles of political leadership, moral authority, social privilege and control of property. Women are largely excluded.

It is different from sexism, which is prejudice and discrimination based on a person’s sex or gender. However, patriarchy has been a breeding ground for sexism.

To suggest solutions, we must first acknowledge the advantages and disadvantages of patriarchy and the gains and losses when we give it up. It will then be possible to change from patriarchal attitudes and behaviors to egalitarian and humanistic attitudes and behaviors.
