'Rights? What rights? No one at the court ever listened to him. The judge set a preliminary hearing for Sept. 27, but on the day of the audience, the judge canceled the hearing and set a new date of Nov 1. This was maddening for the expat. He had arranged to travel back to the United States to accompany his elderly mother through some medical treatments and did not expect to be back in Costa Rica Nov. 1. His father passed away last year leaving his aging mother alone. He wrote a petition to the judge asking for an earlier court date. What a mistake. The judge set the hearing back even more to Dec. 4, three long months from the date he was forced out of his own home by a live-in girlfriend.'

Is that common practice here in the states? If you and your girlfriends get in a argument at YOUR house....could she get to stay there while you are hauled off to jail? Absolutely outrageous.
Hell yeah it's common.
No matter who bought the damn house it is always "her house" to the law.

MrReality, look at any state's DV website for a definition of "Domestic Violence against a woman" - essentially, like sexual harassment in the workplace, it means whatever she wants it to mean.
When you're in a marriage, withholding YOUR money, that YOU go out and earn, IS domestic abuse. That is what it is. There's more.
Crying when she hurts you is manipulation and emotional abuse, for one.

And the abuse shelters,
And the abuse shelters, already limited in resources, are now being filled with women who don't even claim to have ever been physically abused, but with idiots who can't get over a man calling them fat or taking away the car keys.
It's goes without saying
It's goes without saying that these institutions (courts, police forces) suppose to protect the people. But they don't.
By that reasoning men who are screwed in courts are in no way accountable to the law given that the law isn't accountable to them.
How worse does it have to get?
Costa Rica too, eh? Is this poison everywhere now?
And they wonder why judges are getting shot. My only surprise is why it is not happening to more of them.
