US House of Reps Bill Supporting Joint Custody

This bill was recently introduced. This is a good opportunity for activism indeed-- write your rep! Excerpt:

'Resolved by the House of Representatives (the Senate concurring), That Congress expresses support of the States passing joint custody laws for fit parents, so that more children are raised with the benefit of having a father and a mother in their lives, careful to protect victims of domestic violence, abuse, neglect, children from potential kidnapping by a parent.'

No, joint custody is a band-aid on a gushing wound. Joint Custody is not 50/50 and the non-custodial parent still has to pay the same amount of child alimony as they would in sole custody cases.

In terms of money, it is worse for the non-custodial (read father) parent.

In terms of time, it isn't 50/50 in most cases where distance is a factor. Mommy gets the child for 9 months out the year (cause we can't have the child missing school, that is where they train the next generation of Borg Drones) and daddy gets 3 months in the summer. Daddy also has to pay for transportation costs as well as continuing to pay alimony while the child is in his care. Joint custody is a fraud people, don't support it. Go for Shared Parenting which is closer (not perfect) to our goals.

This really is not "new".

What they need to do is change the wording so that it is "shared parenting" with a 50/50 physical care split.

That would do what what the children need.
