I was telling a divorced friend whose children have been legally kidnapped that all he has to do is break into the house he still pays for, unplug the phones, shoot the bitch in the back of the head while she sleeps, take the kids to a beach in Mexico and then tell the jury he was abused, and he's guaranteed to get full custody. The necessary jurisprudence/case law is already on the books, and we're all equals, after all. Hell, I even offered to help him pack and shop for the ammo.

Doesn't seem to work when the genders are reversed, does it? I hope some well-meaning fellow shoots this toxic twat in the head some day soon, and gets a few months of treatment in return.

I'm back. I'll even put up with this damned image-verification nonsense every time I want to type something (6 attempts so far to post this), despite the fact that it wouldn't exactly take an army of programmers to do the test once at login and set a session variable or something similar. It's not exactly rocket surgery....

Sorry to hear the image verification system is not working correctly. I'm disabling it for comment posting temporarily until I can look into a better solution. However, if we immediately start getting spam comments in droves again I'm not sure what I'll have to do.

Your idea would work well for men accept for one tiny thing. When a man commits a crime, the question 'why did he do it?' does not come up until after he is sentenced, by which time it has already been assumed the answer is 'because he is a man, and men do bed things'

Reverse the genders and 'why?' becomes the only question ever asked. If she gives some kind of answer - or even if she doesn't some paid shrink will give one for her - then she's free to go.

But don't stop shopping for ammo though, it still might come in handy.

Yes, it often requires several tries to get it right, but it sure as hell beats having SPAM all over your fine site. Many blogs and sites require CAPTCHA validation these days, since the spammers started targeting them in earnest, and many of them are flaky.

FWIW, the best idea I've seen to date is requiring a verification at login and setting a cookie or session variable that says "yup, it's a human" after the first time a user validates during a given session so they aren't asked again until they log out. It's fairly straightforward in terms of coding (so I'm told), although it means using session variables or cookies. If you're using an off-the-shelf package, I know it could be more difficult.

Either way, it's your site, you're the one doing all the work here, and I completely respect your decision to use validation wherever you need it, whenever you need it. Even if I do occasionally give you a hard time about it :)

No problem. The issue is that the captcha isn't working consistently. That's something I can and should fix, and I'll see what can be done soon.
