Mom acquitted of murder in kids' drowning
Remember this case? Predictably, she was let go, with the suggestion that her 'abusive boyfriend' was pretty much all behind it. Excerpt:
'DECATUR, Illinois (AP) -- A woman whose three children drowned when the family car rolled into a lake was convicted Tuesday of child endangerment.
...
Authorities said Hamm was going along with her boyfriend's plan to drown the children to get rid of the strain they added to the couple's sometimes abusive relationship.
Maurice LaGrone, now Hamm's ex-boyfriend, was convicted in April of murdering the children and is serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
...
Skelton said the verdict means the jury decided Hamm did not help plan murders, but should have known LaGrone was a threat to her children.'

Excellent Use of the "Battered Woman's Syndrome" Defense!
"Authorities said Hamm was going along with her boyfriend's plan to drown the children to get rid of the strain they added to the couple's sometimes abusive relationship."
TRANSLATION - Her savvy defense lawyer played the jury like a fiddle, using the classic Battered Women's Defense tactics.
I'm sure Mr. Skelton argued successfully that Ms. Hamm was battered for years, traumatized, in fear for her life, and "under the spell" of her evil husband.
The reason I can say this with certainty is because Steve Skelton (Hamm's lawyer) was also my divorce attorney!
He's one tough trial lawyer and has a killer instinct when it comes to the mandatory adversarial process in the courts.
(Yes, it is indeed "war.")
My ex-wife exited a 25-year marriage with tens of thousands of dollars LESS than she would have gotten if I had not had such an able attorney. (No alimony -- not a dime. No claims on my business. And legally required to pay off the thousands in credit card debts she had run up during the last months of the marriage.)
All I can say is, if any of you guys ever face a contentious divorce, hire a gunslinger with a vicious reputation, and the public manners of an English gentleman.
She won't know she's been sliced and diced until you're safely out of the courtroom with a grin on your face!
She Will Walk, Count On It!
She will more than likely get released because she has already been in jail for 3 years, poor thing. Female killers of children do get more lenient treatment by the state than men do of course. Women child killers can always play the post partum depression card or play the "a big man intimidated me into doing it, I was so scared of him" card.
Here is a list of 4 child killers in Texas found innocent by reason of insanity who beat the rap and will be out soon. One, has already been released.
LISA DIAZ
IN 2003 DROWNED TWO CHILDREN ONE 6 YEAR OLD AND THE OTHER 3 YEARS OLD IN BATHTUB.
FOUND NOT GUILTY BY REASON OF INSANITY
RELEASED 2006
DEANNA LANEY
IN 2003 KILLED TWO CHILDREN ONE AGED 6 AND THE OTHER AGED 8 BY BASHING THEM IN THE HEAD WITH A ROCK. TRIED TO KILLED A 14 MONTH OLD INFANT THE SAME WAY BUT HE SURVIVED HOWEVER WILL BE HANDICAPPED FOR LIFE BECAUSE OF HIS INJURIES IN THE ATTEMPTED MURDER.
FOUND NOT GUILTY BY REASON OF INSANITY.
DENA SCHLOSSER
IN 2004 MURDERED 14 MONTH OLD INFANT BY CUTTING OFF ITS ARMS WITH A BUTCHER’S KNIFE. CHILD BLED TO DEATH.
FOUND NOT GUILTY BY REASON OF INSANITY.
IN 2001 ANDREA YATES MURDERED 5 CHILDREN BY DROWNING THEM IN A BATHTUB; SEE LIZA DIAZ. INITIALLY CONVICTED OF MURDER BUT LATER RETRIED AND FOUND NOT GUILTY BY REASON OF INSANITY. HER NEW ROOMMATE IS DENA SCHLOSSER.
Good For You Roy!
I am glad to hear about a man who actually came out on top in the divorce wars.
Too bad your lawyer soiled his reputation by getting this child murderer off.
Child murderer
Don't hate the player, hate the game! The courts would have let her go even if the local hobo was representing her.

Is there any question why she got acquitted?
I had to do some more digging on this story, as the story linked wasn't very full on deatil. I found this which was before the trial. Read the damn thing, from the first paragraph to the last, the media is instantly seting up the "poor woman" defence. Their only mention of the guy? He's not a good provider.
Read that news story and then tell me if you have any shock at all over the fact she got off while he's serving life sentances.
