Toronto Star asks, "Why was mother the trusted parent?"

The Toronto Star published an article about Elaine Campione, asking why she, the accused murderer of her two children, was the trusted parent.

"Elaine Campione has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

Yet she was the parent who was trusted, who had full and exacting custody of the children, who fought bitterly against easing access restrictions imposed on her estranged and allegedly abusive husband, who was reportedly terrified that she would lose those babies to their father.

Despite all the alarm bells — and they'd been clanging — despite Elaine Campione's palpable mental instability, her hospitalization, the purported warnings that she might do harm to those children, she was mistress of the manger.

In her care, those beautiful little girls were killed. Nobody protected them."

A surprising article, given the Toronto Star's usual political bent, and particularly surprising given that articles from the National Post and Globe and Mail more dryly submit the information in the court file that has allegations of the father's abuse all over them.

Our society treats men with complete disregard in every single way possible. Accusations alone took his children from him yet repeated extremely serious red flags were presant in the mother and no one cared.

The system needs to treat both parents equally. There is virtually no such thing as a one way abusive relationship. In the overwhelming majority of cases in relationships where there is abuse, there is abuse from both parties.

But, our system does not see it that way

Mother gets kids. That's just the way it is and she has the right to do to them as she pleases. No matter how obviously mentally ill she is. Abuse them, torture them, starve them, rape them or have your boyfriend do it while you watch, abandon them, even kill them. At the point where she has killed them, some one will step in, but not before.

On the fip side, if a father touches the children in a way that makes them uncomfortable or telks to them to sternly, he'll lose not only his rights as a father and access to his kids but he'll never be allowed in the same room as any child again. If mommy hits you it's because you pissed her off, if daddy hits you it's because he hates you.

We really need to dtch the old stero types of mother good father bad. Kids are literally dying because of it!
