"Schopenhauer Was Right About Women All Along": Kait Willett
The fantastic commentator Kait Willett prepared a video essay titled "Schopenhauer Was Right About Women All Along." Description: In 1851, a German philosopher named Arthur Schopenhauer described the exact structure that modern dating just dismantled, and laid out in precise detail what would break when it came apart.
In this video, I break down the five things that structure was holding in place, and what the data shows now that it is gone: commitment, and why men stopped reading it as a rational trade; children, and what paternity confidence had to do with a father staying; female security, because the arrangement Schopenhauer described was built to protect women as a class, not men; trust between the sexes, now collapsed into suspicion; and restraint itself, the hardest one to defend in front of a modern audience. Schopenhauer called this structure utilitarian. It did not survive because it was moral. It survived because it worked, and nothing replaced the function when it was removed.
He was not a prophet. He was an engineer reading a blueprint, naming the load-bearing walls and telling us what they held up. The building fell exactly where those walls were.
Whether you agree with every point or not, understanding what actually broke requires looking at it directly before judging it. That is what this video attempts to do.
This essay is worth listening to carefully.
