Western society’s prejudice against masculinity is becoming toxic
Article here. Excerpt:
'One of the presumed values of liberalism is moderation. Societies that are genuinely liberal do not demand that we suppress our natural instincts. They provide a framework for them to be expressed responsibly. This is the very foundation of a healthy society.
It is why we, in the West, do not stop people from making public displays of affection or criminalise extra-marital relationships between consenting adults. A liberal society trusts its citizens to navigate these aspects of life without state-imposed sanction.
But Britain has been changing. Driven by a well-intentioned but now all-consuming fear of sexism, and the spectre of a kind of “toxic masculinity” that was indeed rampant decades ago, society today wants to deny men the right to freely express their masculinity. Many seek to dismantle the role that men have played in society for millennia – being responsible for the defence of their family and their country, and for carrying the flags that represented the societies to which they belonged.'
