You may recall that 30 years ago, the United Nations approved the Beijing Declaration, which since then has been the cornerstone of the global women’s rights movement.
The Beijing Declaration makes numerous references to “gender equality.” And though the gender disparities affecting men were well documented even then, the UN has inexplicably done nothing to address the 12 areas of male disadvantage: www.menandboys.net
This lamentable state of affairs is about to change.
The International Council on Men and Boys will unveil the New York Declaration for Men and Boys – attached. (This is embargoed, so please do not distribute). Its launch aligns with the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women, taking place from March 10 to 21, 2025, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
This timing underscores the ICMB's commitment to gender equality disussions that encompass a holistic approach to human rights and equality. The New York Declaration seeks to highlight areas where men and boys face unique challenges, including health disparities, educational underachievement, legal inequalities, and societal expectations.
Hope to see you!
Sincerely,
Rebecca Hain
