'Two Democratic congresswomen on Tuesday introduced a bill that would block federal funding for the 2026 men's World Cup until the US Women's National Team earns "fair and equitable wages compared to the US men's team."

The legislation, co-sponsored by Reps. Doris Matsui of California and Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut, comes amid the team's longstanding battle for equal pay.

In sales you're paid on commission. For whatever reasons, men playing soccer brings in loads more $$ than does women playing soccer. So male players typically get paid more. It really is that simple.

Speaking though as a tax-payer, I have to ask: why are my tax $s financing a sporting event anyway?

I have the same thing to say about the Olympics. If ppl want to see it, they'll pay to do so. Why gov'ts finance these events, dunno.
