'Rape is a very serious crime. It is a violation of another individual’s body and mind in a way that is far worse than almost every other crime. Society must reject rape and find ways to foster a culture that does not promote rape or make it acceptable. What the bill before the General Assembly fails to recognize is affirmative consent standards on campuses won’t eliminate campus rape. A rapist doesn’t refrain from raping because it is illegal to rape. Why would that be any different on a college campus? What this bill does is take regular, consensual activity between adults on a college campus and shrouds it with a veil of impropriety.'
