FDA announces Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 must also be applied to men in DV shelters
Announcement here. That sound you just heard was Hell freezing over. 'bout time the heat wave was broken some. Excerpt:
'This memorandum is intended to clarify Food and Nutrition Service's (FNS) policy regarding men who are victims of domestic violence residing in shelters for battered women and children, which will henceforth be referred to as shelters for battered persons. Both the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008, as amended (the Act), and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) regulations allow certain flexibilities for victims of domestic violence who are fleeing their abuser. ...
...
Although some of the language in the Act and regulations is not gender neutral, language in other provisions is gender neutral. The specific language of the Act refers to "temporary residents" of shelters, which conveys that the flexibilities are not limited to one gender or sex. The provisions containing gender neutral language would be overly narrowed in scope if they were interpreted to only refer to women. Furthermore, were these flexibilities restricted to only women and children, SNAP rules regarding children living with their parents would prevent a child residing in a shelter with her/his father from receiving benefits.
In consideration of these issues, FNS finds that all provisions related to persons fleeing domestic violence shall be interpreted to apply to all victims of domestic violence, regardless of gender or sex. ...'

omg!! seriously??
male victims were DENIED that,at first??? why???
Because men "can't possibly be DV victims"
The bizarrest of cognitive dissonance is needed for it to happen, but at once a DV shelter might possibly on an outside chance admit a male DV victim and any kids he has with him while at the same time the same gov't whose grants allow the shelter to exist won't give him or his kids the same nutritional support in funds it'd give his abusive wife if the sexes were reversed.
This is the inevitable consequence of gov't playing favorites. Equality before the law is nothing but a lofty ideal most especially where the handing out of goodies of various kinds is concerned.
maybe i should go back to England....
...and to think i came here to the U.S. because i believed the government was fair and a true democratic-republic.
sorry.... it's really no better than the U.K. i'm afraid.
so... when are you chaps going to REALLY stand up to this utter bollocks and REALLY DO something about it?
one of Thunderclouds biggest "pet peeves" with the 'Men's Rights Movement" was that it was mostly talk, and little to no (significant) action.
sorry. not trying to be a rabble rouser, just asking the question. and sorry if i am mistaken.
remember, i'm still rather new to all this.
