Article here. Oh boy, so predictable. Other women are mentioned who "broke barriers" by entering "male dominated" fields. Gosh, us men are just such a bunch of horrid oppressors toward women. Hey, any mention of, say, Warren Farrell or Glenn Sacks, etc.? Excerpt:

... who've said things far less benign about men. One page of Steinem's quotes is here. Certainly you may find some of it objectionable (as I do), but just how many feminists have said: "A pedestal is as much a prison as any small, confined space." or "Most American children suffer too much mother and too little father." Like all of us, as she goes along in life, her ideas are bound to change. Exactly how "radical" she is these days as compared to the contemporary feminist lot is quite arguable. Next to them Ms. Ms. is probably pretty tame. As for other recipients of the award... Bill Clinton? Seriously? But I'm not saying I like Steinem getting this award. Just saying, it could've gone to someone far more rad than her, that's all.

Overall though, looking at the list of Pres'l Medal recipients, it's pretty humdrum. They used to be a big deal but have turned into the equivalent of OBEs and lower-order knighthoods in the UK. Just make enough money and you get one. Kinda sad, really.
