'A veteran of the first Battle of Fallujah is pushing legislation aimed at trying to prevent the military from lowering physical standards to allow women to serve in more combat roles.
Rep. Duncan Hunter (R., Calif.), a member of the House Armed Services Committee who served as a Marine officer in Iraq and Afghanistan, is offering legislation designed to ensure that the military establishes a single physical standard for combat infantry jobs.
Senior department officials have repeatedly insisted that while standards could be reviewed to ensure they are appropriate, they will not be lowered and the combat prowess of the military will be strengthened, not weakened by allowing women to serve in combat roles.

It is unclear whether Mr. Hunter’s legislation will become law. Even if adopted by the Republican majority in the House, the legislation will likely be greeted with skepticism in the Senate, where the Democratic majority has been supportive of Mr. Panetta’s removal of the ban on women serving in combat roles.'
