Reality TV "star" charged with DV
Story here. Excerpt:
'Anderson, Ind. police have formally charged Teen Mom star Amber Portwood for attacking Gary Shirley, her ex-fiance and father to her daughter Leah, 2. (HollywoodLife.com first reported the news.)
Portwood, 20, has been charged with two felony counts and one misdemeanor count of domestic violence and battery. If convicted, the reality star faces up to three years in jail and fines of up to $10,000.
Authorities launched their criminal investigation seven weeks ago after an episode of the MTV show aired in which Portwood hit Shirley, 24, numerous times. Using both that footage and unaired tapes, police charge that Portwood attacked her beau on three separate occasions.
Documents report that, on Aug. 14, 2009, she shoved, slapped and choked Shirley -- all while young Leah watched nearby. On June 14, 2010, she was taped slapping, punching and kicking Shirley. Finally, on July 18, she was again caught slapping and punching him as Leah watched.'

This case could set a major pressident if she's convicted!
showbiz discussion (or non-discussion)
Yes it should, especially if he needs to take full custody.
Also look at the reporting of the story in this video from showbiz. They introduce the incident correctly when they talk about domestic violence and then ask the question as to whether or not the child should be taken from the mother. But notice how the women end up twisting the discussion into "glamorizng teen pregnancy". One of the correspondents started talking about shame (on amber?) coming from the exposure and what she might do to herself. That same woman ended with blaming both parents for exposing the kid BUT she made no distinctions between the abusive mother and victim father.
In all the discussion nowhere did I here of the father being a victim. God I was so pissed that they would do that.
Some great news though, I've been seeing alot of good comments on YouTube about double standards and female perpetration on non-mra videos.
Anticipating The "Chivalry Thang" To Kick In
I just bet he will ask that all charges be dropped against her. You know the drill, "a man can't be assaulted by a little tiny girl!"
I have also heard a male caller on a call in radio show discussing DV against men that he considered it a measure of masculinity as to how much physical and mental abuse a man can take from a female. Sick!
I saw an excerpt from the tape and in made me sick! It looked like how a slave would behave when being disciplined by the overseer on a plantation in the 18th century, in other words taking it and not fighting back!
I do hope she gets the same sentence a man would get in the same situation but I am not holding my breath on that one.
"she was taped slapping, punching and kicking"
She was TAPED. That's what made the difference. A man's testimony counts for zero. You gotta get it on tape.
