Police: Girl made up kidnapping report

Story here.

'The Batavia Police Department said reports of the abduction of a 14-year-old girl Monday were false and that no abduction occurred.

In a written statement, police said after an extensive police investigation and investigations by the Child Advocacy Center and the Batavia City School District, it was determined the reported victim found herself in a situation where she felt she needed to alter the facts regarding her whereabouts.'

You know how everyone is always saying false reports are rare? Well, how come it seems I read hundreds more reports about abductions and rapes turning out to be fairy tales, then I read about actual, serious legitimate abductions and rapes?

I mean, even the cases of abduction are almost always a parent or relative that is abducting the kids cause they don't like the other parent or other half of the family. The rape cases are almost all dates that turned out really badly for the usually young man involved cause she decided that instead of tweeting him that she was not interested in a second date she thought she'd have the cops take care of informing him for her.

I mean it's so very rare that you actually read about a genuinely horrific abduction or rape case these days, yet the papers have stories that turn out to be hoaxes all the time.

Is it that the media has lost it's appetite for legitimate abduction and rape cases and stopped reporting on them (doubt it). or is it just that fake claims of abduction are a hell of allot more common then actual cases?

"alter the facts"? What a sweet way of saying she lied out her friggin' ass!
