India: 'Rape' to be made gender-neutral, to be replaced with 'sexual assault'

Story here. Excerpt:

'The government has decided to amend the Indian Penal Code (IPC), replacing the word "rape" with "sexual assault" in the existing law in order to broaden the ambit of crimes covered under the sections and make the provisions gender neutral.

"The home ministry is working on a draft Bill. It will soon be brought in the public domain for detailed discussion over all the provisions relating to sections covering rape," said a senior home ministry official.

Making sexual assault "gender neutral" will imply that the relevant sections of IPC can be slapped on accused of any gender who has committed the crime.

"The provisions can be imposed on sexual crimes inflicted on women, men and children thus broadening the reach," said the official.'

This is good for men's rights. Now male victims can hope for justice against female perpetrators when the law is changed.

But i expect the same kind of resistance that has met Israel's attempts to do the same thing.

"This is good for men's rights. Now male victims can hope for justice against female perpetrators when the law is changed."

Doing this n the name of making rape a gender neutral offense sounds like a good thing for MRAs, but the reality I suspect will be more like the laws in Canada which has already struck the word rape from it's criminal code.

Problem is, the new term sexual assault means whatever the hell the "victim" claims it to mean and could see people charged with things that no one in their right mind would ever associate with the word rape.

why not just add a provision to the existing law allowing for females to be charged with rape rather then widening the net to catch people who have never even thought of raping some one.

because, usually I hate the word rape, it was solely described as an women issue. We have to appreciate the wording "Sexual Assault".

But I strongly recommend to find better ways to avoid and prevent Sexual assault instead of keeping good names and introducing new law suits.

As a man I am always feeling shame when see a news that a man raped a women. Why don't we find a way to stop men become sexually violent. Because they cannot be blamed alone, there are lot of external things that make them as abusers.

I think why don't we start a campaign on this topic.
