71-year-old murders grandson in Florida

Story here. Excerpt:

'A 71-year-old German woman has been arrested in Florida for murdering her grandson to keep him from growing up with divorced parents in the United States.
...
The police said on Wednesday the grandmother decided to kill the five-year-old boy during her holiday on St. George Island while her husband had gone shopping. After drowning her grandson in the bathtub, the woman identified as Marianne Bordt from Nufringen near Stuttgart vainly attempted to commit suicide by throwing herself in the ocean.
...
She told police she killed the boy, who has US citizenship, because she couldn’t bear to see him grow up in a broken home after his parents divorced in 2006. According to the authorities, the boy spent most of his time in Georgia with his mother, who is the murderer's daughter.

The grandmother now faces either the death penalty or life in prison should she be convicted of premeditated murder.'

I would think that the constituents in the area that this happened would need to raise a stink about it and embarrass the d.a. If in fact there is any truth to what has been alleged then the d.a. has a legal and moral obligation to investigate this. If not he/she should be removed. It shouldn't matter how much money she has, men are prosecuted all the time when the woman that lied tell a different story. Same should be done here. The doctors records should be reviewed, the nature of the injuries confirmed, and if she hit him with a golf club she should pay the penalty. Why not?

"...because she couldn’t bear to see him grow up in a broken home..."

Excuses, excuses.
Why do we always hear excuses when wymen commit crimes?

Show me a crime committed by a male and his "excuse." Likely, you won't find one, because people don't care to look for one.

I agree, there has to be more than this as far as the actual reason she killed him. Also, her excuse is not a good one, since people in the West generally don't give a sh** whether kids are raised by single parents or not. Not to be cruel, but at least it kept a guy from having to pay exhorbitant child support.
