Exonerated by DNA, prisoner's jailmate coerced into false testimony with threats of rape accusation

Story here. False rape accusations work so darn well for some women that even some police and prosecutors are using them to get what they want, be it some attention, money, or even just to close a case. Excerpt:

'Dillon, 50, walked out of the Brevard County jail last November after tests showed that DNA found on the killer's shirt — which investigators recovered, splattered with the victim's blood — wasn't his. A month later, prosecutors announced they wouldn't retry him for the 1981 bludgeoning death of James Dvorak, and his conviction was erased.

Dillon, one of more than 200 inmates exonerated by DNA nationwide, plans to move to Tallahassee soon so he can be available during those hearings. Under the state's automatic formula, Dillon would receive $1.35 million — $50,000 for every year in prison.
...
Dillon cried while testifying Monday at his first compensation hearing. Afterward, he said he forgave the jailhouse snitch who recanted his 1981 trial testimony that Dillon had confessed to the murder. Roger Dale Chapman testified Monday that detectives told him they'd send him to prison on a fabricated rape charge if he didn't lie.

Although it isn't feasible, Dillon said he would prefer that his compensation be paid by the prosecutors and law enforcement agents he believes railroaded him — not taxpayers.

"I think the people that did it to me — knowingly did it to me — should have to pay for it," he said.'

Why isn't it feasible? It sounds like a very good idea to me - make them pay out the ass, in installments from now unto eternity if necessary. Withhold their tax refunds, garnish their wages, etc. They do all that to 'deadbeat dads', why not to these other guys who actaully have committed a grievios wrong?

When you hear the sum total $1.35 million sounds like a lot of money until you realize that they are only giving him $50,000 a year for being locked up for 27 years!

Is a year of a mans life really worth that little? Most professional people make around that amount if they're free anyway! You're not even coming close to compensating this man for the years of his life that you stole; and for many people $50,000 a year wouldn't even cover their salary!

I agree! Why should the taxpayer be punished because these law enforcement officers were scumbags! Make the people who fabricated evidence, coerced false testimony out of snitches, and knowingly sent an innocent man to jail pay. In fact they should charge these people up to 60% to 70% of their gross income like they normally do it custodial parents, and don't forget to charge them $100 dollar late payment fees, and 6% interest on the sums that they owe.

If these worthless pieces of dog excrement can't pay then suspend their drivers license, jail them for contempt, and put a felony charge on their record. The judicial system has not problem doing this to dead broke dads; so, they shouldn't bat an eye at doing the same thing to someone who was falsely imprisoned for 27 years.

I'm a Florida citizen and I plan to write the governor and our state senators about this!
