ABC: Mom's Depression Tied to Child Abuse in Some Families

'NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - In families with a history of child abuse, a mother's depression may increase the risk that she will act aggressively toward her child, a new study suggests.

The study, which followed 5,500 U.S. families investigated by child- welfare agencies, found that when a mother developed depression, the odds of her child suffering "psychologically aggressive acts" -- including threats or name-calling -- increased.

The findings do not prove that mothers' depression, per se, led to the children's abuse, the researchers report in the Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine.

And so...a woman's behavior is once again contingent upon her man's behavior. And thus, she has no responsibility...for whatever evil she perpetrates. At the end of the day, it is still the man's fault when SHE beats the shit out of her kid.

I'm a social scientist. And I know very well how easy it is to twist around research results in order to blame any population that you want, for whatever evil has been supposedly found.

I see the horseshit of it all. And it pisses me off. So much so, that I'm tired of reading about it again and again.

Obviously, the "system" is failing depressed women.
They are not personally liable for any damned thing as we all know since the "system" (men!) has failed them.

Depressed dads may also be more likely to be abusive, yet i see no articles putting forward that theory. It's the usual thing, when women misbehave, look for an excuse, when men misbehave just lock em up.
