Single mother subjected adopted boy to years of cruelty

'A single woman who was chosen to adopt a boy subjected him to four years of beatings and abuse.

She spat at him, locked him in a laundry cupboard for hours without food or water, and once pushed his face into a plate of hot spaghetti.

The adoption was one of the first by a single mother after social workers and adoption agencies began looking for single parents and gay couples to adopt, in some cases in preference to married couples.

The 43-year-old woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had never lived in a long-term relationship or been married when social workers decided she was suitable to adopt.

Yesterday she was given a conditional discharge after admitting child cruelty.'

This is too bad. As an advocate for adoption, I hate to hear stories like this.

Why was preference given to same sex or single parents? Society is showing less and less respect for traditional families and for fathers.

I don't even like all the circus-like attention given to Madonna right now in regards to her single parent adoption that she is supposedly working on.

Most adoptions go thru without a hitch, and are a win-win situation for everyone. It is a good thing.

I hope stories like this don't discourage any mothers from giving their babies up. I tell girls that are interested in adoption to request a two-parent, biological male and female, heterosexual couple! Be sure to put that in writing.

I hate to change the topic and go off on Madonna, but didn't she use her first child's father as a sperm donor?

And in her biography (or her interview, or whatever) she admitted to having 2 abortions in the past!!!
