Why Are More Women Confessing to Infidelity?

'In an October 2008 study, researchers from the University of Washington explored the recent increase in infidelity, and the changing makeup of the participants. A greater number of older men and younger women have reported being unfaithful than in earlier studies. However, historically, gauging responses in scientific studies of sensitive issues such as sexual behavior has proven to be a flawed science.

According to The New York Times, which cites the University of Washington’s research, the number of young women who report engaging in extramarital sex is not much lower than that of men. The study reports that 20 percent of men and 15 percent of women under the age of 35 have cheated on their spouses, up from 15 percent and 12 percent respectively.'

This study makes me wonder if the percentage of infidelity has really increased, or if because our world is "more okay" with sex out of marriage that individuals are admitting to taking part in it more. Thanks for the interesting numbers information.

Are the numbers rising because society has removed the sigmas against female bad behavior, thus allowing women to be more honest about their bad behavior or because the numbers of people behaving badly is actually rising or both?

I personally believe that everyone is feeling less restrained in their personal behavior, feeling more free to act badly. They feel that it is perfectly all right to be slime.

Women in particular feel less accountable for their actions, and in many cases, encouraged with the "you go girl" attitude that they feel it is okay, if not justifiable, to follow whatever whim strikes them. This I believe leads to the higher numbers.

However, I still believe that a women, in general, are still not being completely honest and that their numbers are actuality much higher. I believe that their numbers are in reality somewhere around 30-34%.

As for men I believe many men feel the need to exaggerate their accomplishments because of social pressures and perceived traditional norms. As a result I believe their numbers are way too high. In reality I believe their numbers to be around 10-15%

Remember woman only have to accept the offers they are presented everyday, for they are the gatekeepers. While men have to go to the gate and hope that it opens.

this could be an early indicator.
