Australia: Big increase in women committing crimes - but of course it's the men's fault

This story on the Sydney Morning Herald explains that there has been a huge increase in women committing crimes lately - but then goes on to explain how basically - surprise surprise - it's all our fault, chaps... Quote:

'THE number of women found guilty of crimes has jumped dramatically, partly as a result of alcohol-fuelled young "ladettes" trying to emulate young males. The number of young women offenders has risen 17 per cent in the past four years, compared to just 4.5 per cent for men.

Eva Cox, head of the Women's Electoral Lobby, said the rise in female crime rates was "one of the consequences of equality" which happened as women had greater opportunities to offend than in the past. They were trying to keep up with the general cultural image in which being a yobbo male was seen as desirable.

"The hard-drinking, hard-driving larrikin lout is still being seen as the model of how to impress society," she said. "For women looking for equal status, sometimes by being equal to inappropriate male culture is the only way to go."

But, she said, it was not something to be alarmed about because crime rates for women were still low - about 19 per cent of those found guilty of crimes are women.'

None of this is a surprise, of course it's always a mans fault at the end of the day - but what is frustrating is the (yet again) focus of the media on excusing their behaviour and going along with the feminist ride. Of the four 'specialists' interviewed for this piece, one says it's just women trying to be men (therefore it's OUR FAULT), another says the courts are becoming more willing to prosecute women (therefore it's the COURTS' FAULT) and yet another says it's part of our punitive culture that punishes the wrong rather than rewarding the right (therefore it's SOCIETY'S FAULT) - and notice how that one is a child welfare specialist, hinting that this is a child's issue, not just a women's issue. Nobody gets a chance to say it's just women going wild.
