I suspect NOW will have something to say about Clarence Thomas"s comments. They've been after him like rabid wolverines since he was found not guilty in regards to the Anita Hill hearings during the 1980's. Excerpt:
'"I don't hire women law clerks," Thomas said. "I hire the best law clerks. And it turns out that 30 percent of them happen to be women."
...
"If a woman graduates from law school and I say I'm going to hire her because I need a woman, that seems to me dehumanizing, and the job would be tainted," he said. "That's my attitude."'

Do you want a meritocracy, or something worse?
All sounds perfectly correct, ethical and sensible to me: you hire the best person for the job, based on their merits and abilities. Who can object to that, and on what grounds? So let's wait and see if anyone proves themselves a sexist, racist or other-ist by coming up with a mindless criticism or a bogus reason for selecting someone on different (and inevitably inferior) grounds.

The problem is, NOW will inject words and infer meaning from it. They'll assume he's saying "the best law clerks, out of the entire pool of them in the whole nation, are only 30% women."
When what he's saying is the best law clerks, out of those who apply, and who seem most appropriate for that very specific job of being a supreme court justice, and who would work best with him, are currently around 30% of his staff.
The bigger question is, what is the ratio of men to women applying for the job.

I can't remember the last time I saw a feminist use reason and logic in a debate. Emotions and lies work so much better. Don't worry about what they can "infer" because they will certainly paint him much worse than you could possibly imagine.
