Swedish group wants 'legal abortions' for men

'Men who don’t want to become fathers should be permitted to have a “legal abortion” up to the 18th week of a woman’s pregnancy, say the young liberals. 

The cut-off date coincides with the last week in which a woman can terminate a pregnancy in Sweden. 

“This means a man would renounce the duties and rights of parenthood,” LUF Väst chairman Marcus Nilsen told The Local. 

By signing up for a “legal abortion” then, a man would not have to pay maintenance for his child, but neither would he have any right to meet the child.'

A man should have the choice when he first learns about the child, which could be ten years after the child is born. Otherwise, a woman could simply not tell the man until it's too late for him to exercise his rights.

This issue will always result in a poor outcome for men. The entrench sexist rolls imposed on men by women (wage earner, cash cow, human shield), remain a core component of responsible emmasculinity in the feminist model. Men will always be expected to pay for the children of women, whether they are biologically related or not.
This convenient paternalistic fossil is enshrined in the laws of parenting in Australia and most other western countries, and rarely complained of in feminist dialogue. If anything, failure of men to fullfil this traditional role is often the subject of feminists complaining about men failing to meet their responsiblities.
A much better approach would be to campaigne for accelerated development of oral male birth control. This would undermine the female monopoly on family planning and give control of fathering back to men, where it belongs.
