Man charged after his newborn tests positive for amphetamines and opiates

Story here. Drugs were found in the baby's system because mom was doing drugs during pregnancy. Dad tried to prevent her from using drugs. But now he is charged. Excerpt:

'A man was charged on Friday after his newborn tested positive for drug exposure in December.

Blue Earth County Human Services Child Protection reports that the child tested positive for amphetamines and opiates after birth and the mother tested positive for opiates. Authorities say 41-year old Daniel Gerald Sturdivant allegedly told them he was concerned about the woman’s meth use and did not want her to use it while she was pregnant. County Officials say Sturdivant said he felt he could not control her since he was gone with work for a week or more at a time. Authorities say Sturdivant didn’t do anything to stop the mother other than trying to limit the money she had available to spend on drugs. According to the report, the mother admitted to Health Officials in September that she had smoked methamphetamine in her second trimester of pregnancy.

Sturdivant is charged with Felony Exposure of Drugs to a Child, Child Endangerment and Child Neglect.

Blue Earth County Attorney Pat McDermott tells KTOE News that his office is considering charges against the mother.'

Considering charges against the mother? Wow! She should be the only one being charged here!

How exactly is a man supposed to stop his wife or girlfriend from putting stuff into her body while pregnant? Guard her 24 hours a day?

This is so ridiculous. That's how you know it's true. It's Poe's Law.
