UK: Exactly when will men get pre-conviction anonymity in rape trials?
Article here. Excerpt:
'After two years of allegations and a gruesome eight-day trial, Coronation Street actor Michael Le Vell was finally exonerated from some of the worst crimes imaginable yesterday.
The jury at Manchester Crown Court took just five hours to clear the 48-year-old of twelve sex offences against a young girl, including five of rape.
The father-of-two had been left ‘fighting for his life’ in both a legal circus and a media scrum.
In his willingness to co-operate, he revealed his private self for public scrutiny: a ‘troubled man’ who chain-smoked, drank up to 12 pints a night, had a string of one-night stands and an affair with a younger woman while his wife had cancer treatment.
Like thousands of men all over the world, Le Vell’s life has already been destroyed by a system which considers men’s innocence a bonus - not a baseline. And it has to end.'

LE VELL
In answer to the question posed,I would have to say "Never"which is a long time but the nearest I can come up with.Cameron, the British PM said ,when he first came to power that he felt that both parties should be anonymous
and talks were held(ha ha)He was told by the feminist committee that there was never to be any chance of
imposing his will so he did an abrupt U-turn and has never stopped doing U-turns since.
The verdict on LE VELL was given out on the 6 o/c news on the BBC last night at about 6.05.At approximately 6.25
there was an announcement by a senior justice woman to the effect that"anonymity" was a non starter,I don't think anyone even consulted Cameron just so as you can see who is really in power without the responsibility.
LE VELL'S job is by no means certain---no smoke without fire and the fact that ratings will suffer due to the show
being mainly female watched, but obviously they will have to recompense him.I shall be amazed if they allow him to continue in the part that he held prior to the allegation even though we know it was due to psychotherapist "regression"
