Salon.com blames masculinity for marathon bombing
Story here. Excerpt:
'“Large public acts of terrorism are very public displays of masculinity, making a statement in the biggest way possible,” says Abby Ferber, a sociologist at the University of Colorado who has studied white supremacist groups and masculinity. In her work, she said, she often encountered a “vulnerability to their sense of masculinity whether it’s their relationship with their father, their culture. And there are a limited number of ways in the culture to show your masculinity.” In the absence of the traditional forms of masculinity — including financial or social power — “you’re more likely to see extreme means. They’re showing that they’re real men, man enough to do something like this.”
Once, Tamerlan’s violence had been on a smaller scale — directed at that woman at the financial head of his table. Friends of Katherine’s told NPR that Tamerlan flew into rages, calling her a slut and a prostitute and throwing things at her. He was arrested in 2009 on a domestic violence charge relating to a different woman. (Dzhokhar seems to have been more like those affable, slightly aimless boys who coast by on charm, with a “permanent stench of marijuana” in his room, according to the Globe.)'

Plenty of ppl of both sexes...
... exist in the world who are aimless, confused, have anger problems and may become interpersonally violent (i.e., DV, bar fighting, etc.). However the vast majority of them do NOT cooly and calculatedly assemble explosives and weapons and then in the name of one or more deities or political causes deliberately kill and maim people who are clearly non-combatants nor in any discernible way affiliated with whatever they deem to be so offensive that explosives are called for.
In short, my money's on "crazy". Other ppl may say "masculinity". Still others may say "Islam". I say "crazy". Crazy is as crazy does, just like "stupid". In this case, it was both, with "murderous" added. But "crazy" and "stupid" explain, they don't excuse. The surviving perp should be treated just as what he is: a murdering terrorist.

Lets play the blame game
What about feminism's role in Kermit Gosnell's murder clinic? Babies with their spinal cords severed because they were born alive is inconsequential to feminists who believe abortion is some kind of sacrament.

Why didn't you just title this article "Confirmation Bias"? That's all that is. I think you should take a look at this article: http://www.avoiceformen.com/men/mens-issues/on-terrorism-feminism-and-a-voice-for-men/#more-36560 It will shatter your belief that terrorism is about "masculinity" at all. I would also like to point out that the majority of rescue workers and people who help in the wake of tragedies are men. I guess "masculinity" is to blame for that too, eh? You journalists must have the cushiest jobs ever. All you have to do to profit off of a tragedy is write something about how masculinity is to blame. It's speculation and opinion, and certainly not journalism.
