Equal pay for second-rate tennis
Article here. Excerpt:
'The equal pay debate in tennis is just great.
The reason the debate is so entertaining is because there is one very strong point that sits on the tip of the tongue yet goes unmentioned.
That is, women’s tennis is boring.
And maybe this point is avoided largely by the male population through fear of receiving a parliamentary lambasting about their crippling misogyny, sexism and chauvinism. But that just shouldn’t be the case.
Women’s tennis is boring. It’s the bit in between the real deal.
It’s the 6-1 6-1 steamrolling that only etches itself into the brains of tennis fans as the unfortunate stop-gap between Federer v. Nadal and Djokovic v. Murray.
...
I’m not trying to write a sexist rant, I’m trying to be thought provoking. I don’t think the women’s game shouldn’t exist in its current form and I don’t think it’s altogether terrible though, there is no question then men deserve more money.'

Don't think 'deserve' has anything to do with it, really
Female volleyball players get paid more from endorsement deals than their male counterparts. Same with female ice-skaters. That's because ppl are for whatever reason more interested in watching women play these sports than men. So they make more money.
Sports is like sales, or entertainment. You get paid based on how much money you bring in. If I spend $20 million to make a movie and gross ticket sales are $40 million, maybe I'll net $5 million. But if the film makes $60 million gross, then hey, I net $25 million (or whatever). You get the idea. Same thing if I go out trying to sell vacuum cleaners. I get paid based on how many cleaners I sell, and that's all. You "deserve" exactly what you get when it comes to certain fields, and sports is one of them.
