Teacher Accused of Sex With Student Takes Plea

'Canandaigua, NY - A school teacher accused of sex crimes with three students accepted a plea deal Monday morning. Marla Gurecki-Haskins, 36, was accused of having sexual contact with a 17 year-old male student in her classroom during the school day. She also faced criminal charges for trading sexually explicit text messages with two other male students, both were just 16 years-old.

Gurecki-Haskins plea deal includes a 45-day jail sentence of which her lawyer expects his client will serve just 30 days. The deal also includes three years probation and she must surrender her teaching license while also resigning from Canandaigua Academy. Because Gurecki-Haskins is pleading guilty to two misdemeanor crimes (Official Misconduct and Endangering the Welfare of a Child) she is not required to register as a sex offender.'

Forty-five days. That's all. For betraying the trust not just of ordinary citizens but of parents who entrust their kids with "teachers" like this one, and of committing a crime that would have landed a man in jail for years, what does she get? Forty-five days in jail, assuming she actually serves that time at all.

When are they going to start treating this like a serious crime?

She probably exposed that boy to STDs and unwanted parenthood had she got pregnant.

Three students were involved. She had sex with one, but I bet she would have had sex with all three if she didn't get caught.

It says she is surrendering her teacher's licence. I hope that means forever, but something tells me she will be back in the classroom soon, after all, she did not have to admit any guilt.

Women teachers who commit sex crimes against male students will be taken seriously when the typical male reaction to these incidents stops being, "Gee wiz! Where were all these kool and sexy teachers when I was in school?" Or "The kid's wetdream or masterbastion fantasy came true! I wish that happened to me when I was his age!" Duh!

a new standard for statutory rape has been established.
lets see if male teachers only get 45 days in the slammer for exactly the same crimen now.
