Canada: Girls can join boys teams, boys can't join girls teams

Article here. Excerpt:

'With few exceptions, girls who have wanted to play high school sports in Ontario over the years have had to do so on girls' teams, if one was available.

No more.

As of last week, girls now have carte blanche to play on boys' teams if they can make it. Even when a girls' team is available.

The decision stems from the case of a Waterloo high school student who filed a human rights complaint recently after her demand to play on the boys' soccer team was denied. As the process rolled on, Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations lawyers decided they were going to lose the fight, so the organization relented before legal precedent was set. A negotiated settlement allowed it to write its own policy rather than being force-fed the wording.
...
OFSAA's executive director Doug Gellatly says the new policy -- which he was against -- raises a number of issues.

Start with the obvious question before it's even asked: No, Gellatly says, if a girl takes a boys' spot on a team, a boy can't try out for a girls' squad in return.

If he requests the chance and is denied, he'd almost certainly be wasting his time launching a human rights case of his own.'

What they miss about this is, the boys sports are of a higher quality because they play against other boys. Boys are superior athletes, girls will be put on the team because of politics not because they are better than a boy. This is about taking opportunites away from boys and ruining boys sports altogether. If girls are included the standard declines, the competitiveness diminshes. Do idiot females think if they play aginst boys they will become "equal" to boys?

Remove "girls" sports and "boys" sports and have one team.

Whoever makes the cut will make the cut. If that's many more boys than girls, then oh well... they wanted equality and they got it.

The answer isn't as simple as having one team because girls can't compete with boys there will have to be special exceptions made for girls which undermines sport as a whole.

This is terrible!

Boys and girls should not play contact sports together. It undermines the value of playing sports and athletics. It is physically unsafe for the females (softer bones, less muscle, etc) and it may hinder some males into not playing as hard as they can, or at least throw-off their mental focus.

It also must affect the comradery among the team (which is a big part of athletics), locker room situation, etc. I do not agree with this at all. Hopefully they wont lessen the tryout demands and physical expectations for girls. .

The double standard is also unfair by allowing the girls, but not the boys to join teams. I don't understand how this is legal or how anyone can be happy about this.

Demonspawn's "one team" idea is essentially what is happening as I assume the physical requirements are the same for everyone that tries out. Only the girls get the benefit of keeping their separate "girls only" team with easier requirements if they cannot make the cut on the "one team". That is reason enough for this to be illegal.

If this trend continues, I bet we will see a female collide with a male and end up with severe injury....but I guess her parents can always sue.

I doubt many girls will be able to make the team, so I do not think girls on a boys' team will be a common occurrence, but it should not be allowed to happen at all.

women are already being favoured by segregating sports teams. to allow any girl to take a guys spot because she is better and not let any Guy take a girls spot is extremely wrong.

I'm all for the non segregated sports.

interestingly feminists wont even view segregated schools as a viable option for boys who would actually end up doing slightly better than the girls because... well its because of just that, boys would stop failing. oh and both genders would do better too. I heard one feminist (in a high position of power) say that "would if some boy never got beat by a girl in math...". basically they want boys to be more than perceived failures but actual failures.
