Reuters: 'If women ran Wall Street? Geithner likes the idea'

'In opening a Women in Finance Symposium that brought together top female government figures such as Sheila Bair and Mary Schapiro, Geithner said he recently read an article asking what it would be like if women ran the hyper-competitive money hub of the United States.

"It's an excellent question. But kind of a low bar," Geithner joked, eliciting laughs from the gathering in the historic Treasury Cash Room. "How, you might ask, could women not have done better?"

The symposium featured the leading female figures working with Geithner to right the financial markets and economy, as well as craft new rules to police banks, Wall Street and the markets.

They touched on their awe at being in their positions of power, as well as the isolating feeling of being in the minority at major conferences and meetings.

"The good news is there's no line for the ladies' room," said Elizabeth Warren, a Harvard law professor who heads the Congressional Oversight Panel which keeps an eye on the government's $700 billion financial system bailout.

Bair said not much has changed, especially when it comes to the ego-driven paychecks that led to big risks and a financial collapse.'

And does anyone honestly believe that if each man on Wall Street the past 10 years had been a woman, the pursuit of financial gain would NOT have been a factor in their actions? And does this not also assume that women don't have egos as compared to men?

Such so-called symposiums are nothing more than feminist butt-kissing sessions. Add Mr. Geithner to the long list of such butt-kissers currently adorning the political landscape.

If women ran Wall Street they would make a mess of it - just as they did with feminism and single mother families and Iceland.

This kind of rhetoric has become an obligation for politicians and anyone with high public exposure. It's totally meaningless except for its suck-up value. It just plays on the stereotypes of good, intelligent, compassionate woman versus greedy, cheating, unethical man.

Face it, the system selects for those that do whatever is expedient to gain and keep power. As long as the system provides the incentives that currently exist, the same kind of people will rise to the top; plumbing has little to do with it except for it's politically symbolic value.
