'This legislation is especially important for the girls and women of this nation because it extends existing federal hate crimes laws beyond the narrow scope of protected federal activities and also includes -- for the first time -- violent crimes committed on the basis of actual or perceived gender, sexual orientation, disability and gender identity. Women know first hand how vicious crimes of sexual and hate-filled violence can affect our lives, especially if local law enforcement is ill-equipped to investigate and prosecute these crimes. We know that hate crimes are more than individual assaults -- they send shock waves and fear throughout a whole community. Girls' and women's lives are restricted and often ruined by the fear as well as the reality of vicious hate crimes, be they based on our religion, race, gender identity or just because we are women.'

While this legislation is obviously intended first and foremost for women, perhaps it can also be used to advance the men's movement? Where are all those the lawyers (like Roy Den Hollander) who are willing to bring lawsuits against those who discriminate against men? This new legislation might give these lawyers something else to use in court. Perhaps the court-imposed 100% award of child custody to women can be construed as a hate crime against men (family structure violence)? Perhaps the false allegations of rape can be construed as a hate crime against a man (and this can and often does do violence to the man's livelihood)? Perhaps the statements of radical feminists who say that heterosexual intercourse is always rape can be construed as as a hate crime (reputation violence and emotional violence)? Perhaps the misallocation of government money in favor of women can be construed as a hate crime (unequal treatment violence)? Let's use their own stuff against the feminists.

Can some one please show me a male who self identifies as a woman hater?

Just one would be nice, cause in my years on this planet and having met and encountered tens of thousands of males, I have yet to meet one who has ever expressed hatred towards women in general or in a general setting. I've met men who hate individual women, even particular groups of women for various reasons other then the fact that they are women, but never met a single guy who hates women in general.

If such creatures do in fact exist, I would surmise that they must be a very tiny group located at the furthest fringes of society.

None of the crimes listed by the article are being commuted in organized groups (like the KKK organize against non-white peoples) for the purposes of bringing fear and terror to women. What's that you say? Rape squads in Africa? Last I checked those events tended to have allot more to do with superstition about sex with a virgin curing AIDS then hatred for women. Has any group ever existed for the sole purpose of bringing terror and suffering to females because they are female? I highly doubt it.

So to say crimes against women are hate crimes does nothing more then make light of the pain and suffering that REAL hate crimes have caused societies around the world

This is just the first step towards NOW's ultimate goal -- making domestic abuse a hate crime. Of coarse, it would only be a hate crime if a man assaults a woman.

Feminists want a domestic violence shelter on every street corner with a prison down the road.

If man yells at his wife she goes to the shelter and he goes to jail. Even if she provoked the conflict.

I just think that in order to justify classifying crimes against women hate crimes, we would have to classify ALL crime as hate crime.

Hate crime is a very specific category of crime. It was brought into existence to fight racism. Racism exists in all races, and in all races, you find small groups on the extreme fringe that are organized groups of people who wish the obliteration of some other random race they don't like. That's what hate crime legislation was created to combat.

There are no such groups in existence of males targeting females for annihilation.

Individual acts against individuals should not elevate to the level of hate crime even if the acts committed were hateful. Hatred for a person does not equate to hatred of all people who share a characteristic in common with that person.

Women are not a class or racial group, they are a gender. Women exist in EVERY class and racial group. They are in fact the majority of the human population.
