Brazil: Kiss Your Daughter, Go to Jail

This Italian man had the unmitigated gall to publicly kiss his daughter while on vacation in Brazil. He's now in custody awaiting possible criminal proceedings. I say lock him up for good. Eight to fifteen years in prison isn't nearly enough for any man who displays the slightest bit of affection towards his children.

Sarcasm aside, while it's important to protect children from exploitation, this is another example of the appalling way society views and treats men. Excerpt:

'There is growing controversy in Brazil over the arrest of an Italian tourist held after kissing his eight-year-old daughter in public.
...
Under a strict new law partly designed to combat child sex abuse in South America's largest country, he faces eight to 15 years in jail if convicted.

The unnamed man has been in custody for almost a week. A new attempt to secure his release this weekend failed.

His Brazilian wife says the case is all a misunderstanding, while staff at the resort where the incident took place have been reported as saying they saw nothing unusual.'

I could so see a law like that passing in the USA, though I hope it never comes to that. People REALLY need to come back to reality and out of this hysterical daze that causes laws like that to come into existence. These laws do NOTHING to protect children from abuse and ONLY abuse children and their loved ones. I know Brazil is a second world nation with great poverty in some regions, but seriously, how many people were sexually abusing children publicly in the streets for this law to have been created? My guess is that it has probably NEVER happened. But hey don't let commen sence or reality deter people from fearing the boogieMAN.

... and the world sneezes. In European-based cultures like Brazil it is not uncommon for adults to kiss their children on the lips, so one has to wonder how the Brazilians are seeing this as something sinister - US feminism comes to mind.

And this is especially dangerous in 2nd/3rd world countries that don't have the elaborate constitutional checks and balances that the US has--but often ignores.

Just to add to Hunchback's comment that the 3rd world is very susceptible because these countries can in effect be brought. Feminism often rides in on the back of foreign aid. The UN is a big bringer of feminism through its aid programs as well.
