'Violence and seduction are a ticking bomb. I think it goes back to the powerlessness some men feel. They feel so emasculated that they get angry or seek attention from a place that they shouldn't. For a man to get off on a woman screaming, the wires have got crossed somewhere. When you're dealing with men with real power they only want you if you're willing. It's about the dance between the male and female. Real power is about exchange, not subordination. For some people a powerful man is a bully. He's powerful because he scares people. And I would say that's not a powerful man - that's an intimidating man, a man who uses intimidation tactics. A powerful man is a man that knows who he is and doesn't need to manipulate people to get what he wants.'

Fairies...
I don't need to be told about manhood by any woman, especially one who spent the nineties telling us she believed in fairies (the kind with wings, not the ones from the East Village)- she's talented but she's also a crackpot. Incidentally, i never bought her rape story. While in a strange city she gave a fan a lift back to his place in the middle of the night? Seems unlikely. Also, it was very convenient that after her first album "Y Kant Tori Read" was completely ignored, plunging her into a deep depression, she just happened to have the song "Me and a Gun" on her second album, "Little Earthquakes". This latter song, being about her supposed rape, was always going to get huge attention simply for it's impactful subject matter, especially given that she makes it seem like a gang rape, which it wasnt.

I knew Amos as a youngster. She's a nut.

why do you think she's talented? The only female singer who could write her own (good) lyrics was Joni Mitchell. All the other women are duds - song lyrics is a men's game.

Why?
Even though her lyrics are ludicrous, her voice is good, her piano playing is good, and her music is good. Those things all take talent, hence she is talented.If song writing was all about lyrics it would be called poetry, not songwriting.

I was just focusing on the lyrical talent aspect.
(largely based on what I have seen on qlyrics.com. That's about the only lyrics site I can find without numerous ads or popups. Check it out some time. the real geniuses are people like Mark Knopfler.)
