'The Death of Macho'
Essay here. This essay left me speechless. Reihan Salam's e-mail address: salam-at-newamerica.net. Excerpt:
'For years, the world has been witnessing a quiet but monumental shift of power from men to women. Today, the Great Recession has turned what was an evolutionary shift into a revolutionary one. The consequence will be not only a mortal blow to the macho men’s club called finance capitalism that got the world into the current economic catastrophe; it will be a collective crisis for millions and millions of working men around the globe.
...
Although not all countries will respond by throwing the male bums out, the backlash is real--and it is global. The great shift of power from males to females is likely to be dramatically accelerated by the economic crisis, as more people realize that the aggressive, risk-seeking behavior that has enabled men to entrench their power--the cult of macho--has now proven destructive and unsustainable in a globalized world.
...
It might be tempting to think that the death of macho is just a cyclical correction and that the alpha males of the financial world will all be back to work soon. Tempting, but wrong. The “penis competition” made possible by limitless leverage, arcane financial instruments, and pure unadulterated capitalism will now be domesticated in lasting ways.'

You have got to be kidding me!
So, we must discount the influence that any man has had or will have from his wife? There is much written proof that our system while using men as the forefront, or the face if you will has been manipulating and controling men by women for a long time. The majority of our own presidents were put in office by their womens' connections, and there is written documented proof as to that. If, there is a woman take over, we will see the weakness that is inherent within females come to full circle. Then, where will we go? How many men have any of you known that worked themselves to death because they wanted to? Most are pushed by their wives to get "more". You know the old saying, when momma aint happy nobodys happy! How about the nagging complaining syndrome whereby the man can't stand to be in his own house because he is made to feel uncomfortable, by those that profess to love him? He therefore either becomes a work aholic, or turnes to drink. Since those that turn to drink are looked down upon by society most men end up working themselves to death so as not to be seen as weak.
Quite an interesting way most of us have been raised don't you think?

I can't believe this got published - what a piece of junk
The author makes a great many assertions with only scant and cherry-picked evidence. For example, (s)he says: "… the housing bubble in the United States was a pro-male policy," yet (s)he offers no evidence of that. His(Her) logic is strung out, full of gaps, and inconsistent. Just because men are employed more than women in the home construction field, that makes the housing bubble a policy on the part of government officials, and a pro-male one to boot? Sorry, I sincerely doubt that the bubble was a government policy. And besides, 21% of single women purchase a home, while only 9% of single men do, so does that mean that the housing bubble is in reality a pro-female policy?
In general the author fails to define what he means by "macho." All I can say for sure is that this author hates men. As for the alleged evolution that men are being forced to go through, that's not at all clear in this article, or in real life, and it is certainly not justified or substantiated in the article. I dismiss the article as a hysterical rant.
Terminal penis envy
It's a terrible affliction that strikes both male and female amateur journalists in their prime. Won't you give to help find a cure?

The discussion here is apparently nothing new. Consider the following quote:
"But what difference does it make whether women rule, or the rulers are ruled by women? The result is the same."
