Revealed: How BA bans men sitting next to children they don't know

British Airways, like some other airlines, are cashing in on the fear of men stirred up by the media. By appearing "safer" than rival airlines, they are hoping to win business.

I'm disgusted.

All of the Star Alliance Airlines, Air Canada, British Airways, Quantas ect have this same misandric policy. Boycott them. They should not receive business from MRAs as in every country that Star Alliance Airlines operate there are alternatives.

This nonsense needs to end. The airlines with this policy should be forced to provide proof that the policy exists for a reason. But, since a child being assaulted on a crowded airliner by a stranger is extremely unlikely they would not be able to provide sufficient evidence that such a polisy is warranted.

As proof of the pretentiousness of BA's policy, they could have re-packaged it in a different way.

They could have stated that its purpose was to give travelling adults some peace. After all, who'd want to sit next to someone else's hyperactive little brat?

Then, the policy would have achieved exactly the same end, and it would not have been offensive to single men.

But no, they packaged this way because they WANTED to be offensive to single men. They want to jump on the PC bandwagon, because that's where they perceive the business is.

Then children would be REQUIRED to sit next to strangers or their fathers. Considering that over 50% of sexual abuse is perpertrated by the MOTHER, then they are safer next to random males.

Strange how that one works out, eh?

This is a disgusting policy, and I will not only be contacting them to complain, but shifting my regional and long haul business from them where possible.

BUT, please note for complaint purposes, BA are NOT part of the Star Alliance.

BA are part of the One World alliance which includes BA, American,Qantas and a few others.

Star Alliance is United, BMI (a BA competitor), Singapore Airlines and quite a few others. Do not send emails to the Star Alliance about BA - they'll just ignore it.

I'm not sure, but if they were to do it the way you suggest, shouldn't they schedule it so that "no kids next to unrelated adults" or something like that? I don't know that they are TRYING to piss off men.

But it does seem like the airlines are shooting themselves in the foot..won't their existinig policy create empty seats?

Axo -- it does piss some men off.

However, many are brainwashed by the system. They'll happily move seats to prove what decent upstanding citizens they are.

And there are also many families who are taken in by the exaggerations and lies they read in the press about paedophiles lurking around everywhere. BA is pandering to these fears in order to win business. But, at the same time, BA is reinforcing the notion that single men are unstable and dangerous. This is something I find particularly galling.

There is, however, a ray of hope. British politician Boris Johnson, who writes a column for a leading newspaper in the UK, was scathing towards BA. He attacks the airline in his usual humerous style, and the blog that follows (that I've contributed to) shows some support for his point of view.

Also concerning the overall issue of paranioa about lone males, I have a theory which is really quite simple..although I am not a psychologist..but I think that many women, and even some men, derive no small amount of glee personally, by in essence taking advantage of this situation (society's paranoia), when they do things like what the stewardess did. It is sort of like the mentality of "petty beaurocrats"..the way a simple-minded person can get pleasure.
