Forbes: Women Vs. Men: Handling Economic Stress

Article here. Excerpt:

'In 2005, the latest statistics offered by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 25,907 men killed themselves, versus 6,730 women. A big part of this discrepancy is that men use much more successful methods of suicide. Each of the four moguls who took their lives did so in a decisive fashion. "Men take far more permanent measures," says Manhattan psychotherapist Jonathan Alpert, who counsels many Wall Streeters and their families. "Women might make gestures that are not as strong, that are more a cry for help or attention."

The financial crisis offers serious and perhaps widespread motivations for male suicidal behavior. "This is just the tip of the iceberg," says Dr. Leslie Seppinni, a Beverly Hills, Calif., clinical psychologist who counsels many millionaires, both male and female.'

Yes men killing themselves is just another example of the how women are really the stronger, more sensible, and morally superior sex.

Did any of you journalists take the time to even consider the whole barrage of issues that men and almost only men face? That might have something to do with why more men kill themselves than women. It has nothing to do with men and women thinking differently.

In fact, a considerable portion of what the article claims is generalised and untrue. Every time a woman or her habits we're desribed, I couldn't help but notice how those same characteristics describe me. Guess what? I'm a man! I can see the big picture, and I eat well, work out, and turn to my family and friends for emotional support when I'm feeling down.

The higher male suicide rate might be related to court-enforced injustices that occur overwhelmingly, if not only to males; i.e. extortionist allimony and child support, paternity fraud, among other things i.e. pressure to be the provider with pretty much nothing being given in return, having to put up with ad after ad putting down males or turning their pain into comedy, reading article after article trivializing the injustices we face or blaming us for something, or well.. you catch my drift. When you're treated like that, you would be more likely to commit suicide.
