Amanda Knox 'regrets' lies over Meredith Kercher murder

'Amanda Knox, the American student accused of murdering Meredith Kercher, her British flatmate, claims she regrets having lied in police interviews to incriminate an innocent man.

Ms Knox, 21, said she was "afraid" but believes she will be acquitted in the end. On Tuesday Paoli Micheli, the pre-trial judge, ordered both her and Raffaele Sollecito, her former Italian boyfriend, to stand trial on December 4 on charges of murder, sexual assault and theft.

Mr Lumumba is suing for damages, and has described Ms Knox as a "compulsive liar". "I'm very sorry about the way Patrick reacted" she said. "The first thing I did was to ask his forgiveness. I felt I was being pressured by the police so I mentioned him, but I'm really sorry".

Ms Knox said she had "really believed there was a chance of getting out of here, and that's why I am suffering." She said she was very tired and hardly eating. The first thing she would do if let out would be to "go to a restaurant and eat tagliatelle with mushrooms. But not ossobuco, because I'm a vegetarian".'

There's crazy and then there's CRAZY. This woman is CRAZY. But in an evil kind of way, like The Joker from "Batman". Jail's too good for her.

Let's see, she is about to be tried for murder in a foreign court and she has destroyed a great deal of her credibility by lying to the police and almost had an innocent man pulled into the case but she is fretting over the fact she will not be able to cast a vote in this election?????

She is simply following the current emotional mob mentality, kinda smart although possibly not on purpose. Most people have a kind of social ADD, since the main focus is on the election then by shifting her statements to the election she also gets the focus of here being a liar, etc.

ALL the judges who have been involved in the case: Judge Claudia Matteini, the judges at the Italian Supreme Court, Judge Massimo Riccarelli, and Judge Paolo Micheli all thought there were serious indications of Amanda Knox's and Raffaele Sollecito’s guilt and refused to grant them bail on the grounds that they are mentally unstable, dangerous and could reoffend.

The case against Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito is formidable.

There are 13 pieces of forensic evidence that link Amanda and Raffaele to the crime, including Amanda's DNA on the handle of the knife found at Raffaele's apartment and Meredith's DNA on the blade, and Amanda's bare footprints set in Meredith's blood and Raffaele's DNA on Meredith's bloodied and cut bra.

Amanda and Raffaele knew precise details about Meredith's body which they could only have known if they had been present when Meredith was murdered. Amanda herself admitted she was present when Meredith was murdered in her handwritten note to the police on 6 November.

Amanda and Raffaele not only gave conflicting witness statements, but also gave completely different accounts of where they were, who they were with and what they were doing on the night of the murder.

In the light of the judges' decisions so far and the forensic evidence which was independently confirmed as accurate and reliable, it looks extremely unlikely that Amanda and Raffaele will be found not guilty.
