Fox joins deadbeat dad myth-boosters

Fox can be as bad as MSN. The network all too often drips with the same kind of chivalrous claptrap only trussed up in different terms and styles. Marc Rudov is one of the few men's voices that are allowed even to be heard (when he isn't being screeched at by some feminist), and while we can thank them for that, unfortunately it seems the rest of the time they are playing to many of the same prejudices we see on other channels. Well anyway, here is their latest. Excerpt:

'After embracing the dark side of reality television with its marriage-busting hit "The Moment of Truth," Fox's newest project taps the power of its unscripted division for the forces of good.

The network has ordered a pilot from 3Ball Prods. in which an avenger of penniless single mothers hunts down deadbeat dads and forces them to pay child support.

As for the aggressive tactics, child support is not considered a debt per se, but an order of the court. Collectors are therefore not subject to following the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, which regulates what tactics a collection agency can employ to collect a debt.

Let's nip this in the bud. Contact "the Reality" people for that part of the network here and let them know what "the Reality" really is on this topic.

As usual, the media will portray every man behind on child support as filthy rich, living in a paid off $900,000 house, and willfully not paying any support. The mother will be portrayed as dirt poor and abandoned by her rich husband because he left her for a younger woman. There will be no talk about the reverse scenerio. So, how many "tougher" child support collection laws will this show trigger. Because of this show, how many dads working at 7-11 will be jailed 2 years and given a felony for being behind on child support that they can't afford to pay?

on a percentage basis, more moms do not pay than dads.
are they going after them?

how about a show about 'Murdering Moms' - they could do a data review on that and I am sure the public would like that shoved up their noses...

Absolutely. This has to be made clear. Not every men's rights activist knows this, and the general public is unaware that child support is structured as a fine payable to the court.

So you have astronomical debts, with interest, incurred by people--men and women--who will never earn the amounts they owe in a lifetime.
