'In the wake of the alleged suicide of an IT employee in Bangalore, Save Indian Family Foundation (SIFF) took up the cause of male suicides on Sunday when it held a candlelight vigil in the City demanding that the ‘draconian gender-biased’ dowry-related laws be rectified.
The NGO dedicated to men’s rights, distressed husbands and their families, alleges that over 60,000 men (twice the number of women) commit suicide each year due to fake allegations in 498A cases or due to harassment from their wives and relatives.
In a country that’s deemed absolutely the worst place in the world for women to live, the very notion of men claiming to be the real victims of the system, to put it kindly, beggars belief. Even more so when men’s rights groups anoint themselves ‘the martyrs of marriage,’ asserting that it is men that suffer most in dowry cases which they say are biased solely in favour of the fairer sex. This, at a time when NCRB data estimates that a bride is burned every 90 minutes in this country.

'In an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal today titled “A Mother, a Feminist, Aghast,” attorney Judith Grossman writes about her family's harrowing ordeal after her college-age son was accused of “nonconsensual sex” by an ex-girlfriend, several years after their relationship ended.
Grossman’s piece reads like a Kafka-esque nightmare: with no preliminary inquiry by the school into the accusations, Grossman says, the college's Title IX office operated under the assumption that “my son would not be afforded a presumption of innocence.” A campus tribunal—seemingly, with no particular background in the law or in evaluating legal evidence—would rule on the claim, with only half of the tribunal needing to decide that the alleged incident “more likely than not” occurred for punishment to be meted out. ...

'Why do you think that women will rule the future? What evidence can you share that proves that?
We don’t think that women alone will rule the future. We think that women with certain leadership skills and traits and men who also possess them, stand a greater chance of success in an ever-more interconnected global economy. This is because the only way to succeed when everyone knows your business is to act in an empathetic, patient, humane, and scrupulously ethical way. Given that people the world over believe these qualities are “female” in a traditional sense, we use “like women” as a shorthand for what can be universal traits.

What are three things that men can learn from women about career management that will make them more successful?

'A local health club's switch to a "women only" policy has ruffled the feathers of some of its male members.
More than 50 men from Dearborn and surrounding communities organized a protest on Tuesday at the Dearborn Fitness USA, one of two Metro Detroit locations that have changed to workouts for women only.
"The company is in breach of its membership contract," Andrew Sluka of Lincoln Park said. "It's discrimination, plain and simple."
According to Sluka, members were notified on Dec. 3 that the Dearborn location would only allow women to use the facility's equipment. Prior to that, the club offered alternate days for male and female members.
"They gave us a two-week notice, and by law, a fitness club is supposed to give its members a 30 day notice if they change a policy," he said.

'A teacher in Texas has invoked her own racism in a defense against charges that she fondled an African-American student in her first grade class at Northwest Preparatory Academy Charter School in Humble.
According to a criminal complaint obtained by the Houston Chronicle, the 7-year-old girl said that 61-year-old Esther Irene Stokes sent all of the other students out of the room on March 1 and then touched her “private part” on the outside of her clothes.
“The victim said that she was in the classroom alone with the teacher and that the teacher touched her on the outside of her clothes, on what she called her ‘private part,’ her vaginal area,” Humble Police Department Detective J. Blanchard explained on Tuesday.'

'Men should be offered a screening test for prostate cancer in their late 40s, researchers say.
The idea is controversial as prostate specific antigen (PSA) testing can be unreliable, throwing up false positive results that can cause undue worry and even treatment over something benign.
But the Swedish team say checking every man aged 45-49 would predict nearly half of all prostate cancer deaths.
...
Screening men at the age of 45-49, however, spotted nearly half (44%) of the cancers that went on to be deadly.
In the study, 1,369 of the men had prostate cancer, 241 had advanced disease and 162 died from it.
They say all men should be offered a PSA test in their mid-to-late 40s. Those with a high result would return for frequent screening and checks (and treatment if necessary), while those with normal results could wait until their early 50s for their next PSA test.'

'Apparently, the protesting group claims the Daytime Deity uses stem cells found in removed foreskin. Check out the below report from the Jewish Press while we figure out where we can immediately order this skincare line!
"How would Oprah respond if a skin cream for men hit the market that was made using cells from the genitalia of little girls? I think she would be absolutely disgusted and appalled, and rightly so. So it’s crazy that she’s doing the opposite,” the group’s founder Glen Callender told the Toronto Star. “We think it’s extremely hypocritical and distasteful that Oprah Winfrey — who is herself a survivor of childhood sexual abuse and an outspoken opponent of female genital mutilation — at the same time uses and promotes a product that wouldn’t exist if not for the forcible genital mutilation of boys.”
As JoeMyGod points out, the skincare line's founder says the stem cells are used in foreskins that were removed 20 years ago.
Cancel our order, please.'

'The purpose of the court-ordered program is to provide youth on probation with job-training skills and prepare them for reintegration into the community, said Charlie Johnson, program manager for the court program.
The project is designed to teach the young women skills and enhance their self-esteem and self-efficacy, learn how to work in a team environment, and improve their communication skills.
“We’re trying to build successful women, not really boats,” Mr. Johnson said.'

'A new political party which hopes to “change to face of British politics” is to fight for the Dewsbury and Mirfield seat at the next general election.
Justice For Men And Boys will challenge Simon Reevell and 29 other Conservative MPs for their seats in 2015.
The party was founded by its leader, Mike Buchanan, a former Conservative adviser who resigned from the Tories after leader David Cameron said he would use all-women shortlists to select candidates.
Labour has already announced that it will use an all-women shortlist to select its next candidate for Dewsbury and Mirfield.
Mr Buchanan said: “All the major parties have been institutionally anti-male for many years, and it is for this reason that we formed our party.”

'It is no secret that our nation is facing a crisis when it comes to boys’ education. Boys are lagging behind in almost every subject, and it doesn’t seem to be getting any better. According to NPR, boys are not only falling behind in school when it comes to the grades they receive, but also in their overall graduation rate and their participation in advanced placement classes. This also makes them less likely to pursue education after high school and, if they do, makes them less likely to be successful.
Recently, the attitude towards this growing national issue has been to create more boy-friendly classrooms, sometimes going as far as to create single-sex classrooms. The idea behind this solution is that, when boys are in classes with other boys, the teacher can target his or her activities to that audience, creating more hands-on and physically active assignments that will help boys learn.

'A Queens teacher who was arrested and fired for taking a 16-year-old student to a hot-sheets motel for a videotaped romp also violated two other boys — inside her school, says a shocking investigative report obtained by The Post.
Tara Driscoll, 35, a former English teacher at Law, Government and Community Service HS in Cambria Heights, pleaded guilty last June to having sex with the minor at the Capri Lynbrook Motor Inn, a 15-minute drive from the school.
But earlier, she brazenly had sex with two other students at the school, where her serial shenanigans were uncovered by girlfriends of the teacher’s pets, the report by schools investigator Richard Condon charges.'

'The successes of Margaret Thatcher, the former British prime minister who died last Monday, demonstrate that women’s achievements do not require extreme feminism.
Feminism has two definitions. One, “the theory of the political, economic and social equality of the sexes” and two, “organized activity on behalf of women’s rights and interests,” according to Merriam-Webster.
Adherents to definition No.1 of feminism rejects laws that apply differently to people based on gender and societal preferences against women. These feminists are against sexism.
On the other hand, definition No. 2 of feminism calls for a new sexism that favors women. Extreme feminists actively organize to benefit women by virtue of their gender.
...
Suppose Freeman went back in time and convinced Thatcher to “lower the ladder” and make half of her cabinet women. This is the opposite of women’s empowerment because it is an admission that women cannot attain something without preferential treatment.
