'The National Women's Council (NWC) has joined with other groups in calling for a 40% gender quota for local election candidates to be introduced as a key measure to address gender inequality.
For general elections, political parties must field 40% female candidates or they will lose 50% of their annual State funding.'

'Young men are becoming increasingly anti-feminist, according to new research. In the U.S., 45% of men ages 18-29 say they face discrimination, according to a Brookings Institute poll. The trend is similar in Europe and the UK, where young men express growing resistance to gender diversity initiatives.
Workplaces where men compete to demonstrate their masculinity often suffer from toxic cultures, low safety standards, misconduct and abusive leadership. They also exhibit more negative attitudes and behaviors towards women and LGBTQ+ individuals, studies show, which encourages harassment.
To counter these trends, corporate leaders can adopt strategies that highlight alternate models of masculinity; address men’s resentment towards gender equality policies; guard against masculinity contest cultures at work.'

'Just a couple of weeks ago, the dean of social sciences at Wesleyan University voiced worries that space exploration may follow a “European Christian imperialist” pattern, and that indigenous beliefs about “celestial bodies” won’t be taken into consideration.
There’s also the “indigenous scholars” who warned merely listening for evidence of alien civilizations could be interpreted as “eavesdropping” and/or “surveillance.”
Now, the Canadian Department of National Defence thought it a prudent use of taxpayer funds to spend over $32,000 for an “intersectional feminist” perspective regarding space-related development.
Give yourself a couple pats on the back if you guessed what the report concluded.

'Across the developed world, girls and young women have been pulling ahead of boys and young men in education for several decades, with much larger proportions going on to attend university than their male counterparts.
This trend has generally been treated more as something to remark upon than to act on. The myriad domains in which women remain at a disadvantage to men have understandably led to efforts at achieving gender equality becoming synonymous with advancing women’s opportunities and outcomes. Men have always gone on to have better labour market outcomes anyway, and if women outperform men in education, this helps narrow the overall male advantage — or so the thinking has gone.'

'Cutting of boys’ and girls’ genitalia is a debated human rights topic. Here, the first aim was to summarise why parents choose to have these procedures performed on their children. Results from 22 survey studies on ‘male circumcision’ and 27 studies on ‘female genital mutilation’ revealed that non-medical reasons, such as tradition, are prominent in the decisions for both procedures. The second aim was to describe researchers’ use of medical words (i.e. ‘circumcision’) and non-medical words (i.e. ‘cutting’, ‘mutilation’) when referring to these procedures. Relevant phrases were searched in titles and abstracts of articles indexed in PubMed.'

'Every day, we see more grown men and young boys dropping out of school, dropping out of work and choosing to drop out of society entirely. They're getting lost in distractions, chasing comfort and losing the sense of purpose that used to drive men to live with meaning and ambition.
We need to turn this around.
In 1998, I started the heavy metal ban All That Remains, and in the past 25 years, I’ve performed for hundreds of thousands of people worldwide. Most of them are young men. I’ve had countless conversations with them and often their stories are devastating.'

'Nearly one third of English secondary schools and academies are teaching about toxic masculinity in mandatory Relationships or Health Education (RSHE) courses, according to a new report from the Family Education Trust.
Toxic masculinity has multiple contrasting definitions, and its use in educational settings is not uniform. But in some English schools, the most inflammatory read of the concept— that masculinity or men themselves are innately bad — is being taught to students.
For example, 4% of schools teach that young men as a category are problematic, and 5% teach that they possess traits that are inherently toxic and negative to society, the report found. Only 22% of schools teaching this content report it to parents, and at least 18% are working with outside providers in developing toxic masculinity-related curriculum.
The Trust sent 300 Freedom of Information requests to schools over the summer, and only 65% responded.'

'Teachers are telling schoolboys that displaying traditional gendered roles in a family could lead to them committing rape, a bombshell report has claimed.
The report from the Family Education Trust (FET) found that almost a third of schools that it surveyed use relationship and sex education classes to teach pupils about 'toxic masculinity'.
In one schools' teaching materials on the subject, children are told that while masculinity 'in and itself is not necessarily a harmful thing' certain masculine traits can be be seen as 'problematic'.
Another presents a 'pyramid of sexual violence', which suggests that certain minor behaviours such as 'displaying traditional gendered roles' may develop into other examples of 'gender-based violence' such as flashing, groping and even rape.

An original essay by reader Mark L.:
Do We Care When It’s Men?
Recently I have been listening to podcasts in my car. One of these podcasts is “History on Trial.” On this show the host, Mira Hayward, presents the stories of “famous legal battles from American history.” The stories often focus on some injustice that was either caused, remedied, or both by the American legal system.
Episode 16 was titled “The American Plan: Rock v. Carney (1920).” (1) “The American Plan” as we learn in the podcast was the common name for the collection of laws and policies that the Federal and state governments adopted around the time of World War I. The purpose of the American Plan was to fight sexually transmitted infections (STI’s). These laws were deemed necessary because a significant number of US soldiers serving in the war were testing positive for STI’s such as syphilis and gonorrhea.
“History on Trial” explains:
“To combat the problem, the government attempted to reduce sex work around military camps.

'Mental health professionals have raised concerns over the psychological and emotional impact that paternity fraud could have on children’s well-being.
The physicians warned that paternity fraud could lead to suicidal ideation and emotional distress among affected young people.
Speaking exclusively with PUNCH Healthwise, the experts noted that the emotional fallout from learning about a non-biological parentage could be profound on children, especially when not properly communicated.
According to them, in some cases, paternity revelations could lead to a crisis of identity, which in extreme cases, manifests as suicidal thoughts or severe emotional turmoil.
In recent years, Nigeria has witnessed a disturbing trend of paternity fraud, where children are discovered not to belong to their supposed fathers.'

'The Air Force finally handed over a trove of documents pertaining to its sweeping “goal” of reducing the number of white male applicants in a popular officer program after spending months stonewalling requests for their release.
Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman C.Q. Brown — at the time the highest-ranking member of the Air Force — issued a memorandum in 2022 that the branch was updating its racial and gender demographic goals for applicants seeking to become officers, in a bid to prioritize “diversity and inclusion.” Internal documents obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation include a slideshow from 2022 where the Air Force outlines racial and gender quotas and details how it hopes to “achieve” a reduced number of white males in its Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) officer’s applicant program.'

'The suspect, 32-year-old Bionca Ellis, has also been ordered to an inpatient treatment facility, News 5 Cleveland reported, citing court records.
Ellis was undergoing a 20-day evaluation when her doctor concluded “that the defendant is incompetent to stand trial, but that there is a substantial probability of restoration to competency within the statutory time frame if provided with a course of treatment,” according to Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas records.
Ellis is indicted on seven charges, including aggravated murder and felonious assault. While incompetent status “does not affect her charges; it pertains to her mental state now, not during the crime,” the report states.
