U.N. Sharply Rebukes Iran Over Women's Rights

Luek writes "
What makes this story worth noting is that each complaint that women have in Iran can be turned around and applied to the plight of men here in the US and the other Western countries.

For instance:

Yakin said in too many cases the tables were turned against women who filed suits, particularly after domestic violence.

"Those seeking redress are condemned as the guilty ones,

Sounds like S.O.P. when police go to a domestic violence call, especially in backward misandric places like Massachusetts!"

Male Body Images Suffer in Western Societies

bandersnatch writes "From WebMD, Western men have a much more distorted view of their own bodies than men in Taiwan, according to a new study.
Researchers say the findings suggest that there's an East-West divide in terms of male body image, which may explain why body image disorders, such as muscle dysmorphia, and anabolic steroid use are major problems in western societies yet rarely seen in Asia."

Women Who Rage

bandersnatch writes "From The Age:

Anger management has traditionally been seen as a male domain, but a number of courses cater to females, writes Caroline Illingworth.
In her mums' group in Melbourne's north-eastern suburbs, Angie Perugini is known as the happy, laughing one, the one who "always gets things done". Yet a few months ago, her bubbly facade belied the fact that, inside, she was seething with rage.
As a former chef, Perugini, 32, had been used to stressful environments, but it was only when she became a mother for the second time and found herself at home caring for two young sons that the bubble of calmness slowly began to burst. Best quote ever -- "After going to anger management I realised it wasn't my husband's fault, it wasn't the house, or the kids, it was all those years of not being shown how to deal with life properly, of not being able to express myself.""

Superbowl Ad "groin attack"

CJ writes "As the New England Patriots became the 2nd team to win three Super Bowls in four-year span, the world was entertained yet again with another attack on men's genitals in the most highly viewed commercial sequence of the game. The first set of TV commercials after game play by FedEx Kinko commenced with Burt Reynolds getting kicked in the groin by a Grizzly Bear with the word “Groin Kick” illuminated across the screen for the world to ponder upon. Last year, in the first television advertisement sequence after game-play the TV viewers were treated with a man instructing his dog to attack another man’s genitals so he could steal his beer. Please use this link to let the advertisers know that sexual assault is not entertainment. The fact that this has become a recurring theme indicates that serious efforts have been implemented for groin attacks to be the first thing for people to see during the most watched game in the US.

WashPost: Grass-Roots Men's Ministries Growing

Remarkable, this from the Post! It isn't mean-spirited, hostile, or openly misandrist! Amazing!

Some from the article:

"Men are very confused today about what it means to be a man," said Burke Community Church senior pastor Jack Elwood. "While women are encouraged to be all you can be, men don't know what they want to be. . . . Are they supposed to be a helper or a leader?"

Men's ministries "help men come up with a vision . . . that's bigger than just get a paycheck, go through life, get married, have kids and die," Elwood said. "A lot of men . . . wake up in their forties and say, 'Is this all there is?' I've been ministering to men for 30 years. . . . This is more and more evident to me as a pastor."

F4J Men to be Re-Prosecuted

Three F4J protesters who were cleared of conspiracy charges are, apparently, to be "retried" - that is, re-prosecuted for the same alleged crime! The story is here.

The phrase "miscarriage of justice" leaps to mind. Then again, why should anyone be too surprised?

Pay even if you are not the father

Anonymous User writes "Apparently Canadian Supreme Court case law dictates that once a person has made a commitment to stand in the place of a parent, they must continue to do so if capable. Read it here.

An Albertan recently discovered he's not the father of a three-year-old girl says he shouldn't have to pay her child support. A Court of Queen's Bench Justice has said Justin Sumner must still shoulder the $165 monthly fee because he acted as the girl's father for two years before divorcing her mother.

Justice Sterling Sanderman said in his decision the real father, they know who he is, walked away from the family.

His ex says. "It's not about the money," Yeah right.

Discriminatory Abortion Rights in Maryland

Douglas Bittinger writes "Maryland has a facially discriminatory abortion law giving women, but not men, the right to terminate pregnancy, and thus the right not to have to pay child support. A father defending a child support action has filed a motion for summary judgment alleging that abortion laws discriminate on the basis of gender, and child support therefore violates men's 14th amendment equal protection rights. The case is CAD 04-04369, in the Prince George's County, Maryland, Circuit Court."

Ed. note: The Daily Docket listing for the court is found here though I was not able to locate a case search facility on the web site.

New Anti-feminist Book

TLE writes "Some of you might recall that I have been working on a book. Well, I am pleased to announce that The Rantings of a Single Male: Losing Patience with Feminism, Political Correctness... and Basically Everything is now available on Amazon.

It has been 5 years in the works, with the last 2 1/2 years dedicated to the actual writing and production of the book. I'll give fair warning that this is not a touchy feely book. It's very intense, but also very entertaining. The Rantings is a collection of outrageous original stories, satire, and social commentary from the male perspective. It is my contribution to the meager selection of men's literature. Enjoy!

Living off her paycheck, "You go guy!"

Ray writes "It seems more is changing in lifestyles than some women are happy with here .

'"I'm going to quit my job next year and just hang out," Ms. Drozd says she overheard her fiance, then 24, an accountant, boasting to friends. Ms. Drozd, who at 21 already had a successful career as a public-relations manager, says the notion nauseated her. "At that exact moment I felt like I was going to throw up. I looked at him and thought, 'Who are you?'" She soon broke off the engagement."

...so what's so wrong about some guys picking a lifestyle arrangement that many women have enjoyed for centuries???"

Fight at Girls Basketball Game

Should I have listed this under Humor or just News? I was not sure so played it safe. Note the closing paragraph:

"People were screaming and running," Prattville cheerleader Cherish Cartee said. "Girls lost their cell phones. Keys got lost. It's something I will never forget."

I'm speechless. And that's not easy to do with me.

An aggressor in DV

Link here: article in question

"It's one thing to ask couples how often their arguments escalate to physical attack. It's another to actually watch them go at it. Deborah Capaldi has. A senior scientist at Eugene's Oregon Social Learning Center, Capaldi has spent hours watching young couples tackle problem-solving exercises in the center's lab assessment rooms.

To the surprise of Capaldi and her colleagues, a partner would sometimes lash out in the midst of debating how to solve the problem.
Deborah Capaldi researches how young women initiate physical aggression against a partner. Who were the primary initiators of such slaps, pokes and kicks?"
