Baby Boy Found with Pacifier Taped in Mouth, Nursery Shutdown

Story here. Excerpt:

'A 4-month-old boy was found in a darkened room at a day care center with a pacifier taped into his mouth, the Tennessee Department of Human Services announced Wednesday.

According to the suspension order, caretaker Angela Day Gentry told police the taping incident had occurred before, and that placing the tape on the child was a "mutual" idea between herself and Kim Ball, the other caretaker in the room."

"The child literally could have ingested the tape, aspirated, or had breathing problems very quickly (among other possibilities) without an adult's knowing of any crisis," the report stated.'

Families getting child support unhappy about new fee

Article here. Excerpt:

'WASHINGTON — Millions of families that turned to federal and state governments for help in collecting child support payments will now have to pay more for the service.

Beginning Oct. 1, families will have to pay $25 annually when states have collected at least $500 on their behalf. Families that previously received public assistance will be exempted.

The $25 will help reduce the federal deficit and compensate the federal government and the states for providing a child support program. Two-thirds of the fee will go the federal government; one-third to the state.
...
For Claudia Fauntleroy of Petersburg, Va., the notice about the additional fee was akin to getting a $25 parking ticket in the mail. Her immediate reaction? “You’ve got to be kidding me.”'

New York Times: Men Are Now Happier Than Women

Article here. Excerpt:

'Over the same span, women have replaced housework with paid work — and, as a result, are spending almost as much time doing things they don’t enjoy as in the past. Forty years ago, a typical woman spent about 23 hours a week in an activity considered unpleasant, or 40 more minutes than a typical man. Today, with men working less, the gap is 90 minutes."
...
"Government policy isn’t the only problem, either. Inside of families, men still haven’t figured out how to shoulder their fair share of the household burden. Instead, we’re spending more time on the phone and in front of the television."'

New Men's Website

Dear Administrators and Readers,

This is to inform you of our new website dedicated towards promoting men’s issues. It is called JJ’s Garage and can be found at http://www.jjgarage.com/.

Our site wants to coordinate and promote the thoughts and opinions of the average man. It has dedicated itself to this concept. Any man that enjoys writing his thoughts and opinions on any subject concerning male life in America can utilize our website for this purpose. Some of the subjects we highlight are “She Did What?” which gives men a chance to tell their side of broken relationships without the usual “men are bad, women are good” sexist slant found in most main stream media outlets. Our sight also highlights a section called “Fathers and Children” which offers married and divorced fathers a chance to offer their thoughts and opinions concerning the challenges and rewards of fatherhood. And finally, “Your Soapbox” is a section dedicated to the writings of men concerning any subject – sort of like a venting room.

News.com.au asks: "Why do married men stray?"

If you really fancy getting angry, read this.

A famous cricketer in Australia has just been in the press for cheating. Technically he didn't cheat - he had, in the past, on several occasions, but this time he was actually separated from his wife when the fling occurred. But that's not important to this writer, who basically uses it as an excuse to attack all us men and tar us with the same brush.

What's more interesting is the comments below the story, a lot of guys (me included) have attempted to bring some sanity back into this.

Author Calling for Stories of Abuse of Men by Women

I thought I'd pass this along... a social worker is writing a book on relationships wherein the man stays with the woman even when he is being abused by her. The web site is aptly named http://www.mypsychobitch.com/. Excerpt from the "About" section:

'As the years went by, I became more experienced as a therapist. With more experience came more exposure to similar stories wherein, with seemingly little or no provocation, the woman was flat out abusive to the man. In one case, while working with a couple, I asked the woman, "What were you thinking when you threw the ashtray which struck your husband in the head, causing an emergency room visit and seven stitches?"

With incredulity, I recall he wife saying, "I don't know that was thinking anything." She then changed the subject and continued talking about something else unrelated to her attack. I asked the man about his thoughts and feelings on this topic. His response, "She didn't mean to hurt me."'

NYT: 'When Ties to a Parent Are Cut by the Other'

Thanks to Maurice for pointing this out. Article here. And you guessed it, it starts out with a story about an evil alcoholic truck-driving father as the perp. Only about half-way down the article do they get to this:

'Dr. Baker said her research — both for the book and with several hundred subjects over the last five years — indicates a mother or father is equally likely to do the manipulating. It is “truly 50-50,” she said.'

Women aged 21 to 30 working full time earn 17% more than men

A New York Times article of September 23rd mentions an analysis, based on 2005 census data, of the wage gap between men and women aged 21 to 30. Women who are employed full-time in that age bracket earn 17% more than men. The following is excerpted from the article (registration is required to view the article in its entirety):

For the first time, women in their 20s who work full time in several American cities — New York, Chicago, Boston and Minneapolis — are earning higher wages than men in the same age range, according to a recent analysis of 2005 census data by Andrew Beveridge, a sociology professor at Queens College in New York.

For instance, the median income of women age 21 to 30 in New York who are employed full time was 17 percent higher than that of comparable men.

Professor Beveridge said the gap is largely driven by a gulf in education: 53 percent of women employed full time in their 20s were college graduates, compared with 38 percent of men. Women are also more likely to have graduate degrees. “They have more of everything,” Professor Beveridge said.'

New Zealand: "Government has radical plan on child abuse"

The government of New Zealand does not seem to have heard of the fact that women can be (and frequently are) perpetrators of domestic violence. Here is their new, incredibly one-sided approach to the problem: women only are to be asked at hospitals if they "feel controlled" or if anybody has "hurt or threatened" them.

This plan is indeed radical - radical feminist.

UK: 'British School Girls Beat Classmates Face ‘Beyond Recognition’'

Video here.

Some people, particularly casual visitors to MANN, might ask, "Why does MANN keep putting stories up about violent women and girls, high schoolers getting stat. raped by female teachers, etc., etc. We all know it happens, why keep on about it?"

Well the reason is just this: most of us wouldn't know about it unless someone pointed it out, as such stories are usually buried on page C15 rather than on A1, where the stories about male criminals are printed.

The urge to deny that women and girls are just as capable of violence and other criminal acts is very strong: a toxic mix of chivalry, bigotry, and cognitive dissonance keep the wheels turning. So MANN keeps posting these sorts of reports because the mainstream media keeps airing one spun-out excuse-making report for female criminal activity after another. In short: *We* won't stop until *they* stop.

RADAR ALERT: H-RES 5-9-0, Misandry Has Got to Go!

Since the beginning of September, we have called on you to contact members of the U.S. House of Representatives to "Say NO to HRES 590." And our efforts are working!

To date the House Education and Labor Committee not voted on this hateful resolution. Even better news, the bill hasn't been scheduled for debate! That's exactly where we want it to stay.

And now we have a great opportunity – not only can we deep-six the bill, we can also send a powerful message to several Representatives who are running for president. Four current house members are running for President in their parties' primaries:
Duncan Hunter
Dennis J. Kucinich
Ron Paul
Thomas G. Tancredo

Because they are current House members they will also have to vote on HRES 590. We can continue our efforts to stop HRES 590, and perhaps influence the Presidential campaign, by making these four Congressman the focus of our efforts this week. For a reminder of just what's so offensive about HRES 590, see RADAR's critique here (.pdf file).
