Behind the Lace Curtain: How Feminists Control What America Reads

From 1990 but still on target. Essay here. Excerpt:

'In 1984, the veteran novelist Kingsley Amis came out with a new book, Stanley and the Women, which was uncharacteristically rejected by several New York City publishers. At length it was accepted by Ileene Smith, a young editor at Summit Books. To Ileene Smith’s astonishment, she received a series of phone calls from irate feminist editors, denouncing Amis’s book and criticizing her for bringing it into print. It was, she says, “as if there were some kind of tacit understanding that one should never endorse something that didn’t conform to standard feminist principles.”

The treatment was repeated at social gatherings, as other feminists went out of their way to criticize her role in publishing the book. Ileene Smith’s sin? To have published Kingsley Amis (despite his considerable critical reputation and commercial success). Kingsley Amis’s sin? To have allowed his characters to criticize feminism. Ileene Smith thought she had just been exercising her profession. She had reckoned without the Lace Curtain.'

Examples of Toxic Femininity from Science, Popular Culture, News, Documentaries and Candid Women

Video here. Description:

'This is a compilation of evidence and examples of Toxic Femininity from peer-reviewed scientific research, documentary data from a major TV network, daytime talk shows, scripted dramas from popular culture and the essays of honest, fair-minded women.

It will help you stand up for yourself and for men generally when you hear from friends and others that you as a man are immersed in a toxic culture. The basic idea is that men and women are equal -- equally human, equally good, and equally bad. If we need to be worried about Toxic Masculinity, we need to scrutinize female culture just as thoroughly for the existence of Toxic Femininity.

You might find this video to be a good start in that effort.'

A Certain Hunger by Chelsea G Summers, review: Psychopathic food critic deliciously skewers men

Article here. Excerpt:

'Journalist and debut author Chelsea G Summers once wrote that “2014 was the year that misandry got chic”, charting a course from Gone Girl’s criminal mastermind Amy to Taylor Swift’s knife-wielding persona in Blank Space.

I was anticipating this zeitgeisty, nail-polish-emoji brand of feminist vengeance when I heard about Summers’ first novel, billed as “Eat, Pray, Love meets American Psycho“. While duly sating that desire, the novel also gives voice to a certain form of misandry that cannot be dismissed as merely fashionable.
...
If “misandry” is defined not as the hatred of men, but as rage against the patriarchal order, might anger be a critically useful emotion, in that it warns us that something is wrong? Misandry like this could catalyse positive social action, as well as more great novels.'

Judge denies UI female students seeking restraining order from swimming, diving team cuts

Article here. Excerpt:

'A federal court judge has rejected a request from six female student athletes seeking an immediate restraining order that would halt the University of Iowa’s efforts to dismantle its women’s swimming and diving program.

“Because plaintiffs have not established the threat of irreparable injury ‘of such imminence that there is a clear and present need for equitable relief to prevent irreparable harm,’ … they have not established a need for such immediate emergency relief,” U.S. District Court Judge Stephanie Rose wrote in an order Dec. 4 — one day after the students, through their attorney, formally made the request.

“However, the court appreciates the time-sensitive nature of plaintiffs’ dilemma as a general matter, and finds expedited briefing to be appropriate,” Rose added, setting a hearing for Dec. 18.

The Service Women's Action Network (SWAN) issued a letter to the leaders of both the Senate and House Armed Services Committees, requesting that they retain a provision in the fiscal 2021 National Defense Authorization Act that would halt the ACFT until an independent study is conducted, according to a news release from SWAN, a national nonprofit group that advocates for the needs of servicewomen and female veterans.

The Army unveiled its plan to replace the current three-event Army Physical Fitness Test with the more challenging, six-event ACFT in July 2018. It authorized all soldiers in the active, National Guard and Reserve force to begin taking the ACFT as of Oct. 1.'
