'Friday afternoon, ISU Public Safety announced that the female victim in the reported sexual attack on Sept. 4 recanted her statement and is being charged with false informing.

The female in the case, Erin Conley, 19, a second semester non-preference major, reported Tuesday that she had been approached in the HMSU Commons in the early afternoon Friday by a man trying to sell her a magazine subscription, said Bill Mercier, director of ISU Public Safety. The man then asked to be shown around campus.

Conley reported that when they arrived at her room in the Lincoln Quads, he sexually attacked her.

'A high school girl who falsely reported she had been sexually assaulted by a classmate was put on 10 months probation Thursday in Sarnia court.

The 16-year-old pleaded guilty to making the false report to Sarnia police in the spring.

The girl and a male student went to a park near their school for consensual sexual activity before returning to school.

She later told police she had been assaulted by the boy.

A police investigation determined it was a false allegation but not before the boy was interviewed by police and the girl underwent a sexual assault examination at the hospital.

The girl admitted the allegation was false.

The girl's mental health issues played a large part in the false report, said defence lawyer Noelle Wright.

The boy had developmental issues but the girl did not take advantage of him during the incident, said Wright.'

'VANCOUVER, B.C. — A former private school teacher who sexually assaulted one of her teenaged students and then gossiped about it to his friends is going to jail for six months and will spend two years on probation.

A provincial court judge in Vancouver heard the teacher, who can't be named, convinced the Grade 11 student that if he were sexually active he would be more confident.

After the two had sex, the teen learned the woman had phoned two of his closest friends and talked about what they had done, his lack of experience and her frustration.

While the woman initially denied having sex with the student, she entered a guilty plea in May to touching for a sexual purpose while in a position of trust.

On top of the six-month jail term, the former teacher also has to give a sample of her DNA, can't have any contact with males between the ages of 14-and 18-years-old, and has been ordered to attend counselling.'

'HEPPNER, Ore. — The Morrow County sheriff's office arrested a female teacher accused of having sex with two boys, 15 and 17.

The sheriff's office says 30-year-old teacher was taken into custody Monday and lodged at the Umatilla County Jail on charges of sexual misconduct and rape.

The sheriff's office says the incidents began before the end of the last school year and continued through the middle of July. Morrow County District Attorney Elizabeth Ballard says she plans to present the case to a grand jury this week.

Superintendent Mark Burrows says the teacher has been a "super" teacher. The district placed her on administrative leave last week following accusations of inappropriate contact with minors.'

'ESCANABA - A Gladstone woman who said she was brutally sexually assaulted last year was sentenced Tuesday to four months in Delta County Jail on two counts of attempted filing of a false report of a felony.

Amanda Chatterton Miller, 27, claimed she was sexually assaulted by a stranger on Feb. 27, 2008, in Brampton Township. She told police in the hospital emergency room she was kidnapped, beaten and raped, and also a victim of sodomy.

Following an intensive two-day hunt for the suspect, Miller confessed to police she had lied about being assaulted by a man who never existed. She told police she and her husband, Gilbert Tryan, made up the story so he wouldn't get in trouble.

In addition to the four months in jail, Davis ordered Miller to 18 months probation on each of the two counts of attempted filing of a false police report, to be served concurrently. She was also ordered to pay restitution to be determined, $526 in fines and costs, and attorney fees to be determined.'

Professor Thomas Thibeault made the mistake of pointing out—at a sexual harassment training seminar—that the school's sexual harassment policy contained no protection for the falsely accused. Two days later, in a Kafkaesque irony, Thibeault was fired by the college president for sexual harassment without notice, without knowing his accuser or the charges against him, and without a hearing. Thibeault turned to the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) for help.

"If you were to write a novel about the abuse of sexual harassment regulations to get rid of a dissenter, you couldn't do better than the real-life story of Thomas Thibeault," FIRE President Greg Lukianoff said. "Anyone with a modicum of respect for freedom of speech or simple fairness should be aghast at this blatant abuse of power by East Georgia College."'

'A 15-year-old girl who allegedly worships Satan was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of lighting a fire at her Orangevale church.

The blaze occurred at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at the corner of Hazel and Cherry avenues.

Christian Pebbles of Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District said the teen made it clear why she started the blaze, which damaged church pews.

"She hates the church and she worships the devil," Pebbles said. "That's the reason why."

Pebbles said the teen was taken into custody on suspicion of felony arson.

"Well, you know, kids sometimes don't always like what their parents want them to do," said Annette Hilt, the suspect's mother. "Everybody knows that."

There were nearly 50 other church members inside when the blaze took place.

"The flames were about 4 feet high inside the chapel," church facilities director Pat Elmer said.

Fire officials said the goal is to make sure that the girl receives counseling, not to necessarily punish her.'

'Anthony Caravella was ordered released after a private laboratory test revealed someone else's DNA at the crime scene.

Although it was once considered a rare and remarkable event, a growing number of defendants are being ordered freed from prison as DNA tests continue to uncover evidence of false confessions, shoddy police work, and questionable prosecution tactics.

Mr. Caravella's release on Thursday is conditional, pending further investigation. If the release order becomes permanent he will be the 243rd person freed by DNA evidence nationwide, the 11th in Florida, and the fourth in Broward County.

Seth Miller, executive director of the Innocence Project of Florida, says despite the proven success of such efforts it is becoming increasingly difficult for defense lawyers to pursue DNA testing.'
