After centuries of misogyny, women deserve reparations – but how much are they owed?

Article here. Excerpt:

'Asking the question isn’t merely a demand for financial compensation; it’s a moral reckoning. A demand for an acknowledgement of harm. Still, as Madonna noted, “we are living in a material world, and I am a material girl”. So let’s get down to the business of sums.

How far do we go back to calculate women’s losses?
...
Now the Church of England has promised £100m in reparations for slavery. Project Spire will not give money to direct descendants of those who were enslaved, however, but to improving opportunities for communities affected by slavery.
...
...Divided by the 35 million women in the UK today, this would give us each a lump sum of £20,000. And that’s before you begin calculating the financial oppression that followed in the 20th century and beyond.

Bateman poses a further question: the gender wage gap for full-time employees now hovers near 7% – do men today owe women 3.5% of their earnings?'

Opinion: Hating men only centers them; performative misandry is misogyny

Article here. Excerpt:

'In a world systemically centered around men, pretending to dislike them only sets us further back as a society.

We’ve entered an age in society where many women have popularized throwing around the phrase, “I hate men.” It’s disguised as a reaction to the political and physical pain men have inflicted upon women through the power of the patriarchy; in truth, however, it’s just another way to perpetuate that patriarchal dominance.

After all, centering yourself around hating men is still centering yourself around men. It means nothing if you’re not putting in the work to misalign yourself from their gaze.

The hatred of men is, more often than not, performative. It’s a product of following propaganda and what people have deemed to be “cool.” It’s not established in anything progressive, and it’s a movement that harms both women and men together.

As per usual, women are the ones for whom this is most dangerous.'

Believe women? No – believe evidence

Article here. Excerpt:

'Jane Doe’s case against Cornell and seven former students has become a Rorschach test. One reading is that its a case of gang rape and institutional cover-up. Another reading, based on the text messages sent at the time, is murkier, messier and far less convenient for the outrage industry. These messages tell a different story from the narrative surrounding the lawsuit, and the “believe women” brigade would prefer you didn’t read them.

On October 19, 2024, Jane Doe, a 20-year-old Cornell student, attended a sorority event at Moonies Bar in Ithaca. By her lawsuit’s account, she had had about ten drinks by 11 p.m. She walked to the Chi Phi frat house to see a male friend, Matthew Ingalls. Ketamine was present. Other men came into the room.

Teaching College Men About Inequality, Power and Sexism Shouldn’t Be Optional

Article here. Excerpt:

'Some will object that requiring students to study gender, power or oppression amounts to ideological instruction—indeed, such an objection lies behind new bans and restrictions on teaching about sex and gender in some states and university systems. But studying an intellectual framework is not the same as accepting its conclusions. Students can be asked to examine contested ideas, consider competing perspectives and develop their own evidence-based judgments. The purpose of teaching about gender inequality, power and sexism is not to produce agreement, but to equip students to understand these forces, question them and exercise judgment about them.

Feminism’s Next Wave

Article here. Excerpt:

'Ultimately, this problem is not political, but anthropological. Amid the frenzied push to make women equal to men, we have forgotten what women are. While women climb ever higher on the metaphorical ladder, the ground on which that ladder stands has become soft, and their ascent has lost its direction. In order to re-solidify the grounds of the current debates over feminism and to reorient its aims, we must return to its origins.

So that’s just what we did. Last month, a crew of thinkers, writers, scholars, artists, and doers—myself included—convened to chart a better path forward for women. Erika Bachiochi, a legal scholar and editor-in-chief of the journal Fairer Disputations, and Cecelia Lester, the president of Feminists Choosing Life of New York, gathered us together in upstate New York at the inaugural Women’s Convention.'

Ex-Cornell student accused in fraternity lawsuit barred from Florida university, report says

Article here. Excerpt:

'A former Cornell University student named in a civil lawsuit alleging a 2024 fraternity house gang rape has been barred from the Florida university where he later enrolled, the Daily Mail reported.

Jonathan Newell, 21, was ordered to stay off Nova Southeastern University property after complaints from parents, according to the British tabloid. The university did not name him. In a statement Sunday, NSU President Harry Moon said the allegations “may involve a student who later transferred to NSU.” The university said it was unaware of the allegations when the student was admitted and that federal law limits what it can disclose. The statement did not say whether the student is still enrolled.

Mr. Newell is one of seven former Chi Phi fraternity members named in a lawsuit filed Sept. 16 by a woman identified as Jane Doe. She alleges she was coerced into taking ketamine and then sexually assaulted at the fraternity house on Oct. 19, 2024.'

Who is Jane Doe Really?

This site reveals Jane Doe in the Cornell 7 case to be one Lucy Craig. This name is all over the Internet as being her. It appears to be the case. As the media has no trouble naming the alleged suspects in this case, people have gone to lengths to discover Doe's identity.

'Controversial cases still require evidence, process, and room for dissent.

This site is built to present opposition, documentary material, competing interpretations, and public discussion without treating allegations as adjudicated facts. Court records, attributed reporting, editorial argument, and reader comments are labeled as different kinds of material.'

Heather MacDonald Rips the Cornell Rape Case

The interview starts at time point 49:00.

'Heather Mac Donald joins Andrew Kolvet and Blake Neff on the lawsuit that put Cornell back in the national fight. A former student, Jane Doe, sued in September alleging seven Chi Phi members drugged and assaulted her at a frat house in October 2024. The men deny it. No one has been charged. The Tompkins County D.A. declined charges in 2024 off her own campus-police statement. The New York Times reported his office did not review later evidence. On Oct. 2, Gov. Kathy Hochul pulled the D.A. and named Attorney General Letitia James special prosecutor. Students rallied Monday demanding expulsions and President Michael Kotlikoff’s resignation. Mac Donald argues the sworn 2024 account does not describe a crime.'

'Why are governments becoming increasingly concerned about the growing number of single men?

In this video, we break down the demographic, economic, and social forces behind the rise of single men and why the consequences could reach far beyond modern dating.'

Young men, masculinity and misogyny

Article here. Excerpt:

'Now a major new YouGov study examines the beliefs of young men through a tour of issues ranging from gender equality, misogyny, and masculinity.

The results paint a complex picture, which does not necessarily support the national narrative that there is misogyny problem that is uniquely confined to young men.

While potentially misogynist views are certainly held by a minority of young men and boys, in many cases they are not held at a rate significantly higher than among their elders.

Indeed, the results also show that young men are often more likely to hold more progressive gender attitudes than their older male peers.

The study does, however, find that conceptions of masculinity do differ between Gen Z men and their elders, with traits often associated with toxic masculinity seen more favourably by young men.'

Our blind spot for female sexual predators is putting teenage boys at risk

Article here. Excerpt:

'A 30-year-old PE teacher convicted of multiple sexual offences against a 16-year-old boy; a 34-year-old music teacher whose 13-year-old pupil fathered her child; a 31-year-old maths teacher jailed for having sex with two teenage students, one whose baby she gave birth to. A string of recent cases has brought the concerning issue of sexual misconduct by female teachers into the public spotlight.

As a senior lecturer in criminology and justice, my work has increased understanding of how and why some female teachers sexually abuse students. It has made it clear that a gender blindness can make it hard to recognise some women as perpetrators, which can lead to devastating results.

My research has highlighted how we need to be alert to any signs of concern in the relationships between female teachers and students in the same way as those of male teachers. Although every case involving female perpetrators is unique, some common patterns have emerged in the research.'
