'In the late 1980s, Finland discovered something troubling. Among its highest-risk suicide groups were young men rejected from military service. At exactly the age when they were trying to prove themselves, they were branded as outsiders. Many spiraled into isolation, unemployment, and despair.

Finland’s response was striking. The Defense Forces worked with mental health groups, employment services, and ​therapists to catch these men before they fell. They created guidebooks for life after discharge. They launched projects like Young Man, Seize the Day to provide vocational training, community, and a renewed sense of belonging.

In other words: Finland looked at these young men — stigmatized, rejected, hurting — and asked, “What do they need to find a way back in?”'

'A 34-year-old woman was injured by a brown-colored bear on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, near Lake Janet in Glacier National Park.

Park officials said in a news release on Thursday that the woman and one person were hiking near Lake Janet when a medium-brown colored bear with two cubs charged out of the brush toward the woman.

The woman dove off the trail, while covering her head. The bear swiped at her, injuring her shoulder and arm.

As this was happening, her hiking partner deployed bear spray, causing the bears to immediately run away. The incident lasted less than 30 seconds.'

'A new analysis of publicly available data shows that unemployment is rising among younger men, and their labor force participation is stagnating. The good news is that there are some fixes.

"Over the last year, things have gotten worse for young men," Sara Estep, an economist at the Center for American Progress and one of the report's authors, told Business Insider. While young men's unemployment levels are below historical levels, "things are definitely moving in the wrong direction."

Men have filed several recent lawsuits stemming from abortions obtained by their partners or ex-partners. The strategy is part of an effort by antiabortion lawyers to gain ground in their uphill battle to target mail-order abortion pills and interstate travel for the procedure. But it carries risks—putting dysfunctional relationships on display to advance a divisive claim that men are harmed when their intimate partners end pregnancies.

“They’re finding people who might have an ax to grind against their ex to try to end abortion access. These are not savory plaintiffs,” said Marc Hearron, a lawyer with the Center for Reproductive Rights who represented a Texas abortion-rights activist in one case where a man sued several people over his then-wife’s self-managed abortion. 'A Pierce County judge ordered the release of a mother without bail, despite accusations that she filmed herself sexually assaulting her two-year-old son for profit.

Trinity Carrell, a 22-year-old Edgewood resident, was charged in Pierce County Superior Court with rape of a child in the first degree, promoting commercial sexual abuse of a minor, and animal cruelty in the first degree.

Police said Carrell used Snapchat to send sexually explicit videos to a man for payment, which included sexually explicit video of her young son for what she thought would be $50,000 payment. She said the Snapchat user asked for a video of her changing her son’s diaper, while “fondling” him.'

'A Florida man has died days after he was found screaming, locked in a room and doused in acid — allegedly by his wife who police claim called 911 to report the incident.

The victim, Robert Heyden, was attacked in a New Port Richey, Fla. residence last week, the New Port Richey Police Department said in a statement to PEOPLE.

Police did not name the victim in their statement, but he was identified by the Tampa Bay Times.

'A nurse from Ocala, Florida, is accused of raping her 15-year-old stepson after his father walked in and caught them in the act.

The accused is identified as 34-year-old Alexis Von Yates who on Thursday accepted a plea deal and pleaded no contest to a lesser charge of lewd and lascivious battery in the case, Court TV reported.

The allegations came to light in July 2024 when the woman allegedly targeted her stepson while he was visiting his father.

"Under the terms of the plea agreement, Von Yates will serve two years in the Department of Corrections, followed by two years of community control and 10 years of sex offender probation. When MacMaster became embroiled in a child custody dispute, his former wife Johanna falsely accused the man of child abuse. The woman went so far as to propose to Sean that agreeing to terminate his parental rights would be his “get out-of-jail-free card.”

The case represents one of the largest awards ever rendered for a wrongful allegation.
