Ames Strives To Remove Boy-Bashing Stickers
napnip received a response from Ames Department Stores after he e-mailed them about the vending machines inside those stores containing boy bashing stickers ("Boys Are Aliens," "Boys Are Brainless," "I Make Boys Cry," among others). Store officials point out that they do not stock the vending machines themselves, but have asked the company which does to remove the offending stickers. napnip's e-mail to Ames
Dear Ames:
Is it your policy to sell blatantly sexist stickers which bash boys and young males? (Like in the attached picture.)
Do you sell similar stickers bashing girls?
Don't you think you owe the public, and boys in general, a public apology?
And, Ames' reply
Thank you for taking the time to write to Ames. Your message was forwarded to my attention. Feedback from our customers is very important to us.
As you might imagine, Ames was equally stunned to find that the vending machines in our stores contained stickers like you describe. These machines are contracted through an outside company and we were not aware that they contained such disturbing statements. We have immediately requested
that all of these stickers be removed from the machines. This process should be completed within the next week. We will continuously follow up and monitor the situation. We sincerely apologize for this situation and truly appreciate it being bought to our attention.
Sincerely,
Stephanie Liebl
