Democrat congresswoman draws boos over 'shameful' sexism remark in committee hearing with Treasury Secretary

Article here. Excerpt:

'A House Ways and Means Committee hearing took an unexpected turn Wednesday when Rep. Linda Sanchez, D.Calif., accused Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent of interrupting her because of her gender—prompting audible groans from the room.

When Bessent attempted to interject, Sanchez quickly cut him off: "Please don’t interrupt me… I know I’m a woman, but please try to limit yourself to answering my questions."

That remark prompted groans from the hearing room, with one attendee audibly reacting, "Oh, come on." Sanchez responded: "No, I’m sorry, but we get talked over all the time, and I don’t want that to happen at this hearing."'

UK: WEC to hear evidence from Laura Bates on misogyny, the manosphere and AI

Article here. Excerpt:

'MPs on the cross-party committee chaired by Labour MP Sarah Owen will examine the rise of the manosphere and its influence on misogynistic behaviour and attitudes online and offline. The session will also look at the emerging use of artificial intelligence (AI) and how this is facilitating misogyny, and the links between the misuse of AI and the manosphere.

Discussion is expected to focus on non-consensual intimate image abuse (NCII) through deepfakes, linked to the Committee’s current and prior work on NCII abuse, and other aspects of Bates’ research, including bias in artificial intelligence.

WEC’s inquiry explores the prevalence and impact of misogynistic views, attitudes and behaviour among men and boys, particularly in schools and educational settings, and the reasons for this. It examines ways that boys and young men are also being harmed and if better support, activities and services need to be available to them.'

Article here. Excerpt:

'Streeting was speaking at the launch of The Centre for Policy Research on Men and Boys (CPRMB), a new organisation that seeks to produce actionable policies to tackle a decline in men’s health, employability and life expectancy that has crept up on the political class. Brooks – their policy adviser and a lifetime campaigner in the field of men’s health – has overseen the release of the CPRMB’s first report. Missing Men outlines the challenges facing men and boys, and comes hot on the heels of another report by the Centre for Social Justice (CSJ) – Lost Boys – which paints an equally stark picture of male outcomes.

‘Female narcissism is often misdiagnosed’: how science is finding women can have a dark streak too

Article here. Excerpt:

'Scientists long assumed that women were simply too wonderful to be significantly psychopathic or narcissistic, and didn’t bother to study the possibility much, according to Ava Green from City St George’s, University of London. But research over the past few decades is increasingly challenging this stereotype, suggesting women can have a dark streak, too. Much like in autism or ADHD, such traits just express themselves slightly differently in women – making them harder to spot with diagnostic tests that were essentially developed for men.

For tech's new generation, college is an expensive waste

Article here. Excerpt:

'...Today, a perfect storm of economic, political, and technological forces is driving young people — mostly men, as every noncollege techie I interviewed happened to be — to circumvent college entirely. For one, higher education has grown prohibitively expensive: In 2024, the average federal student loan debt was just under $30,000 for those who completed a bachelor's degree, and all-in costs for some four-year degrees have now surpassed half a million dollars....

Israel Is Putting More Women on the Front Line to Help Fix Its Manpower Problem

Article here. Excerpt:

'Days ago, an Israeli search-and-rescue team in Gaza spent hours drilling through concrete and plying aside rebar to recover the body of a fallen soldier buried under rubble in Khan Younis.

The combat unit had been following a commando brigade in Gaza, recovering the bodies of dead soldiers on the battlefield. It is a routine task in the Israeli military, but it was unique that this team was made up mostly of women.

“A year and a half ago, I would never have dreamed of leading a combat team within Lebanon or Gaza,” said a petite 25-year-old major. “I think the war proved to all of us how much we are capable of.”

She is among a growing number of women serving on the front lines of Israel’s military. Before the Hamas-led Oct. 7, 2023, attack that spurred the war, women were trained for combat, but left mostly to guard within Israel’s borders or run checkpoints in the West Bank, considered less dangerous tasks.'

The Quest to Bring Young Men Back to the Democrats

Article here. Wow, they're not even close! Excerpt:

'Those losses have precipitated soul-searching on the left, as Democrats wonder how to revive their appeal to young men who are struggling financially but intrigued by the machismo promoted by Trump and media figures popular on the right. Republicans are “exploiting grievances” by connecting economic pressures to shifts in gender norms, said Shaunna Thomas, the co-founder and former executive director of the gender justice organization UltraViolet.

Democrats know they need to bring young men back into the fold. But it’s a delicate dance: On the one hand, the wrong kind of outreach risks coming across as condescending, but on the other hand, too much focus on the needs of young men might end up alienating the women who have traditionally formed the core of the Democratic base.'

Man up and take it: Gender bias in moral typecasting

Article here. Excerpt:

'Informed by moral typecasting theory, we predicted a gender bias in harm evaluation, such that women are more easily categorized as victims and men as perpetrators. Study 1 participants assumed a harmed target was female (versus male), but especially when labeled ‘victim’. Study 2 participants perceived animated shapes perpetuating harm as male and victimized shapes as female. Study 3 participants assumed a female employee claiming harassment was more of a victim than a male employee making identical claims. Female victims were expected to experience more pain from an ambiguous joke and male perpetrators were prescribed harsher punishments (Study 4). Managers were perceived as less moral when firing female (versus male) employees (Study 5). The possibility of gender discrimination intensified the cognitive link between women and victimhood (Study 6). Across six studies in four countries (N = 3,137), harm evaluations were systematically swayed by targets’ gender, suggesting a gender bias in moral typecasting.'

Debunking the UN's Attack on the Manosphere

Article here. Excerpt:

'There is a growing wave of attacks against what’s being called the “manosphere.” These attacks are coming primarily from feminist organizations and media allies who claim that the manosphere (the electronic patriarchy) is filled with misogynists who hate women and promote violence.

The truth, however, is quite different. What they’re labeling the "manosphere" is, in many cases, a loose network of voices pushing back against decades of feminist misinformation. That pushback — often grounded in research data, lived experience, and reasoned critique — is what truly alarms feminist ideologues.

To them, this movement represents a threat. It challenges their long-standing narrative by exposing its flaws, hypocrisies, and one-sided portrayals of gender dynamics.'
